Rarely am I invited to any male dominant events. It makes sense, I don’t typically branch out with my blogging activities into menswear or trends. But hey, I’m generally up for anything when it comes to a new learning experience.
So when I was approached to attend the male centered event for The Joy of Plants to showcase their #VitaminPlant, I thought ‘why not’ and invited Joe along to do the real investigative blogging for the evening. It worked out in my favour. I was at work longer than expected so J arrived first on the scene, chatting with the other guests and taking photos for me (but probably mostly eating the food and sipping on the Brooklyn Beer).
The Event: The Joy of Plants
The Location: Sharps Barbers
What it was about: We learned about how men owning and looking after plants in their homes make them more appealing to women. Yes, seriously.
It was an interesting take on alternative home decor and I can see why they’re trying to expand their market. The concept? Men who have plants in their home are sexier. Sure. Why not? And their statistics are in: A study of 3,000 British men and women conducted by Thejoyofplants.co.uk has revealed that one in five women find a man more attractive if he owns plants – with 84% saying it shows he’s caring, 49% taking it as the sign of good taste, and a third (34%) believing to be the marker of a healthy lifestyle.
I can see where they’re going with it. It’s all very Shoreditch designer vibes and yes, a home filled with gorgeous (or at least slightly thought about) decor is one worth staying over at. I also really enjoyed these botanical jars. A lot.
Perhaps The Joy of Plants are onto something with this…
The evening was all about the #VitaminPlant. You know, looking after plants, looking after yourself. Which follows well into why they held the event at the barbers.
To pair with the plants, the barber shop offered up cuts and trims to the gents. Joe’s beard was kind of out of hand, so he settled in for a pampering session. I barely knew what to do with myself, so I grabbed a beer and played photographer.
Overall, it was a really fun night with interesting people, a quality beard trim and quirky green plants. I’m sure I’ve had stranger Wednesdays.
