If you’re anything like me, the holidays are filled with sparkle, velvet dresses, and all things shiny. Who says it has to be over once the festive season comes to an end?
Despite the fact that my work wardrobe is all black all the time, I wear on the weekends too. Isn’t easier to reach for a black tee and jeans rather than toil over meticulously planning something? It is. It’s my lazy fashion girl’s go to. Or you could say I’m channeling Kelly Cutrone.
I’m annoyed with myself for all the dark – and I should inject some spirit or a tiny bit of colour into what I’m wearing, but dark colours suit me.
What am I adding to the fashion mix to kickstart the new year? I’ve rediscovered a serious love for all things metallic – excluding that horrendous shiny blue eyeshadow that we all used to wear in our early teens.
Shiny metallic Kurt Geiger boots are a must during this winter season. These babies were purchased out of necessity. I was wearing a pair that day were causing blisters on the back of my feet and actually started bleeding. Cue the emergency stop in Selfridges’ shoe department. My silver boots are more than fashion, they were a practical purchase.
Alongside the shiny space boots, I’m rocking a new tiny handbag. My dad’s go-to presents for Christmas/birthday/any occasion/celebration is to go to the Michael Kors store. While he usually picks out something for me, this year I received a gift card to do a little bit of shopping.
My eyes settled on this bag and I did one of those ‘I HAVE TO HAVE IT’ moments. And without a doubt, I needed the pom. I just did. Look at that perfect shiny metallic combo.
FYI the jeans and jumper are new to the wardrobe, but they’re staples that I’m always living in anyways.
My mom found me this soft as can be Rag & Bone jumper and I made the purchase of these Mother jeans while I was stateside. I’m obsessed with denim and always spend for a better fit and longer lasting jeans. I used to rock these amazing skinnies from H&M and Forever 21 but I needed to buy multiple pairs during the year. I stopped that and now my jeans last much longer. It’s a win from me.
You can tell I haven’t totally stepped out of my comfort zone, but I’m looking to add accessories to my wardrobe. More metallic. More whimsy. I’m in one of those ‘trying to spend less money’ moods. That said, I definitely have an ASOS tab open and ready for my perusal. I am trying though. I’m looking to spend more money on travel this year and less on clothes cluttering up our bedroom.
Wish me luck…
