I’m not the most outdoorsy type.
Does that surprise you?
No, it likely did not.
But for some reason in Hawaii, I was eager to participate in all sporting activities.
So… hiking.
What better place to hike than up to the Iao Needle?
Well, apparently not so much. The hike up to the Iao Needle viewing deck is a short one, barely a 15 minute stroll. So, a walk.
But it’s a fun sight to see. And you get the feeling that you are surely walking through the set of Jurassic Park… Look out for the T Rex.
Take a look, it’s the Iao Needle!
It’s beautiful to look at. You can hardly believe that we’re still in the United States, right?
Also, yes, I definitely did not brush my hair that morning. Oops.
I’m not sure if you can actually climb the needle. The state park advises not to wander off the path, but more serious hikers are known to stray. We took a little bit of a detour off the path, but I wasn’t ready for a serious climb anywhere.
The Iao Valley State Park is worth a stop if you’re ever in Maui. It’s on the Northern part of the island, and in my opinion an interesting place to look around.
We were only in the Valley for about a half hour, maybe forty-five minutes. It’s all you need.
After, a great idea is to head to Paia, only a short half hour drive away from the valley.
For such a small island, you end up traveling quite a bit while you’re in Maui.
So we went to Paia and enjoyed smoothies and a liiiiiittle treat (chocolate banana muffin).
Yum.
What do you think about the Iao Needle in the Valley?
