I came across the most adorable little café the other day, The Kew Greenhouse café. We decided to take my dad outside of London, not too far away, just across to the Kew Gardens to see a little more green. In this case, a little more autumnal colouring, oranges, reds and yellows were out in full force throughout the garden.
On our way to the gardens, I couldn’t help but spot a familiar looking restaurant that I eventually recognised as a place that the ever lovely Little Miss Katy had popped up on her Instagram a few weeks ago. Well, Katy obviously knows how to pick superb places because The Kew Greenhouse Café is an absolute gem.
Set amongst the high street of Kew Gardens – which in reality is a quiet small row of shops, some familiar chains, some quirky local stores – this isn’t one to miss. The service is friendly and the interiors are incredibly charming.
And the food? It’s a fair estimate to say it’s quite a value for your pound. My plate was brimming full of cooked vegetables, and a homemade quiche. The partners in crime for the day, my dad and Joe went for Shepherd’s Pie and a Chicken Pie. They practically licked their plates clean, and I wasn’t far behind.
It’s one of those places that makes me feel like I want to move outside of central London, where you’re a quick tube ride into the city, but far enough to enjoy a quieter life. When the autumn and winter comes around, I always crave a little more peace and a little less noise so I’m glad to have found a spot where I can ‘escape’ London life, even if it’s just for an hour or two.
