It’s no surprise that I’m kind of a foodie.
Not in the sense that I have any true culinary knowledge to add to a conversation, but I know what I like, I know I’ll try just about anything and I know that when you travel, to always try the local favourites. I also flatlay my food for Instagram, so it’s a safe bet to say, Michelin star critics, here I come.
I’ve heard about In-N-Out Burger for most of my life. The elusive West Coast burger mecca. One by one, friends have travelled west, only to discover this cult love for the place.
I was missing out in a major way.
Similar to when I was 11 and all the cool kids were wearing these horrifying sketchers with heels in them, I too, wanted those shoes desperately.
I too, wanted what the West Coast had. That In-N-Out Burger.
Needless to say, it was a firm ‘must’ on my list for California. With 313 locations, you’d think ONE might trickle towards the east… But no.
So on our second day in San Francisco, we knew exactly where we would end up. After a day of visiting Alcatraz, and travelling along the cable cars, and walking everywhere. It was a well deserved treat.
It didn’t matter that we weren’t really hungry, because we were going to eat everything. And a shake.
Along Fisherman’s Wharf is an In-N-Out Burger, ready for tourists taking a lunch break, and locals popping in for their favourite grub. And ready for the Prince-Wrights. Hello west coast burger heaven.
We kept it simple. Cheeseburger. Hamburger. Fries. Chocolate Shake.
And oh my god, it was incredible.
I’m going to say something that sounds strange, but it doesn’t feel *that* unhealthy digging into these burgers. Calories definitely don’t count when you’re fulfilling your lifetime dreams.
Beautiful things are happening here.
The shake was thick, chocolatey, and smooth all at the same time.
The burgers were, shockingly a good portion size for America and I didn’t feel terrible after eating literally everything on our tray. And well, you can’t go wrong with a side of their fries.
I can definitely see why this burger chain is the best of the west.
In-N-Out Burger, I’ll be back for you someday.
