One day ago I went to bed listening to the jarring sounds of large snow plow trucks clearing the snow covered streets.
Today I woke up to the dulcet tones of the ocean lapping against the sand.
So, how did I get here?
Let’s journey from frozen to Florida.
Monday morning. Wake up, it’s 3:30AM. Time to head to the airport, while forgetting that it’s also President’s Day weekend and the entirety of the USA is traveling… so long lines greeted us as we dropped off our bags.
Barely making it to the plane, we were among the last ten people who boarded… we finally took our seats, ready to go.
But first, please note, de-icing the plane in -8°F weather conditions is beyond necessary (and makes for a lovely photo).
After the plane was safe for take off, we journeyed from one frozen location…
…only to land in another. Hello, Detroit.
With plenty of time before our connecting flight to sunny Florida, we opted for a good breakfast complete with Bloody Mary’s.
Full up on eggs, vodka and tomato juice, we left Detroit and the snow and caught our flight down to Sarasota.
I slept nearly the entire two and a half hour flight and woke up to these beachy views.
Naturally, the first thing I had to do when we landed was beeline to the first coffee place in sight.
It was a treat to drink iced coffee without shivering.
Finally, we arrived to my Grandma’s gorgeous beach house er… condo.
So we had to go take a stroll down by the water.
After living in very heavy coats and boots… the sand between my toes is a welcomed change.
We spent yesterday evening enjoying great big glasses of white wine and the sunsetting on the Gulf Coast.
I have to admit, this is the start to a promising vacation.
How is everyone else coping with the weather where you live? Or are we all in the same boat, ready for vacations?
Stay tuned for more on the vacation. I’ll let you all live a little bit vicariously with me this week.
Sending lots of warmth and sunshine to you all!
xx Kelly

I frequently fly through Detroit when leaving Heathrow to return to visit my family in the States. It’s a nice airport and isn’t nearly as busy as JFK! Just discovered your blog. You definitely have a new loyal reader. I also lived in NY for 10 years, aside from growing up in FL. Have lived on both coasts. What beach is this?
