In honor of Cinco de Mayo and my birthday weekend…let’s taco bout sushi at Seabar.
It’s been a long time since I’ve indulged in a great sushi restaurant… normally I can’t find any willing dining partners. Luckily, my dad is a big sushi fan so I knew I had someone in my foodie corner for the evening.
So we went on down to a little place called Seabar located in downtown Buffalo, New York, eager to try out the fish…with my mom and brother reluctantly tagging along. But as this wasn’t any ordinary sushi restaurant, we were able to order up a few other options.
As our first starter, we indulged with fish tacos, piled high with guacamole.
I’ve got to admit, we all dug right into these goodies…
Making quite a big mess along the way. But the best foods are never eaten delicately, am I right?
It’s as if I’d stumbled into a restaurant filled with all my favorite things. Tacos. Sushi. And alcohol.
Best. Birthday. Ever.
But that’s enough Cinco de Mayo tribute.
Time to travel to the far east for a different kind of cuisine… or at least onto the next starter.
Pork and Shrimp Shiu Mai.
And these babies were amazing.
Then last, but certainly not least, the main entrée arrived… sushi surfboard heaven.
First up on the left is the Tiger-Eye roll, then the BBQ Salmon roll (my dad’s favorite of the bunch).
And sliding along the board is the Crab mango roll (my favorite) and the Handroll Trio (salmon, crab, shrimp).
PS. Don’t forget this was for my dad and I to split. Talk about indulging on your birthday!
I was a bit too absorbed in my dining experience to snap photos of the other dishes of the evening.
Oops.
Anybody else a sushi fan? If you are, what’s your favorite kind to order?
And what would be your perfect go to birthday meal?
I used to request homemade spaghetti sauce every single year!
xx Kelly

I only recently started eating sushi and haven’t looked back. I’m lucky to have enough sushi lovers in my life.
This year for my birthday, I want the cupcakes you make in ice cream cones. So ridiculous but so delicious.

ummm this all looks amazing. fish tacos are one of my fave meals everrrr and probably what i’d choose for my bday meal. i will eat most sushi/sashimi, just nothing with cream cheese or creamy sauces or mayo or eel or fried stuff. 🙂

Totally agree, fish tacos are heavenly. And I know what you mean about avoiding all those unhealthy variations of sushi, I try to as well, but considering I had someone on my sushi team, I figured we’d split our picks. Very diplomatic of me 🙂 xo

Love love love sushi. We have a great couple of Japanese stores with sushi bars inside that just do the best sushi I’ve ever had especially the speciality rolls, they can’t be beat!
