It’s not often that Joe and I travel outside of central London for a meal.
Hear me out. I know I’m generally a ‘will travel for good food’ kind of person. But we’re a little spoilt for choice in our hometown and any adventure to go further we tend to shrug off.
That is certainly no longer the case.
On a late Friday afternoon, we ventured out to Worcester Park (a 25 minute train journey from London) to visit the recently opened Miller & Carter Steakhouse.
I wasn’t totally sure what to expect, but steak was very much on the menu. And we’d heard good things from Joe’s family who have been to their local branch in Southampton.
A short walk from the station, we found ourselves greeted by the staff and settling in for a relaxing Friday evening. I wanted to get there on the earlier side to guarantee brighter photos and a less crowded restaurant.
The Miller & Carter menu has everything you could want and more. Boasting seemingly endless starters, we chose the Baked Cheddar mushrooms upon recommendation and a bottle of their Chardonnay. I know steak is meant to be enjoyed with red, but I have to be in a very specific mood for red wine.
Each steak on the menu also comes with an iceberg wedge salad, fries, grilled balsamic tomato and an onion loaf (kind of like a bloomin’ onion or as Joe more accurately described, tastes like onion rings. It’s good, but we assumed it was bread. It is not. It’s 1000% better.)
The steak is ridiculously good quality. I chose the 8oz fillet because I’m completely basic when it comes to eating steak and Joe chose the grain fed 10oz sirloin. Don’t get me wrong, my meal was great, but his was definitely the superior choice. Joe’s steak was in their ‘Steaks to Explore’ category of the menu. And this specific range of exclusive steaks is chosen by Miller & Carter’s master butcher and sourced from around the world. Aged for 50 days and bursting with flavour before serving.
Go for the sirloin you guys. Just do it. It’s worth it. I also had the Bernaisae sauce and Joe had the peppercorn. Both were excellent and you can’t choose wrong.
I think that’s probably the best summary of our experience, there’s no wrong choice, because everything really is fantastic quality. They have 13 different steaks to choose from, fed on both grass and grain, which results in more flavour. I’m certainly no expert when it comes to steak, but their crew is. All of the head chefs go through extensive training with their Miller & Carter Steak School.
The quality was excellent and it made for a decadent meal out – at an affordable price. Considering each steak includes all of the above sides, you can easily have a meal out for two for £50 and then add in your choice of drinks for a little extra indulgence. We were really impressed with the added value that’s automatically included with each steak selection.
Yet, no meal is completely without dessert. Or at least for Joe. I couldn’t imagine eating another bite of anything. So he ordered the sticky toffee pudding and we sipped our wine leisurely, catching up on what happened that week, laughing and well, having a proper date.
It felt good.
And as we enjoyed our own company, we noticed that Miller & Carter continued to fill up and when we eventually rolled ourselves out of the restaurant, it was packed.
It’s clearly the new local hotspot and I can’t for one second think of a reason it wouldn’t be. Our service throughout the evening was excellent. Our servers who looked after us knew the menu extensively and could recommend their favourite choices, which we found incredibly helpful. And as a special mention, the manager on for the evening Roland was phenomenal. I know it’s a bit on an extra experience when you go in for a restaurant review, but I always pay attention to the other tables experiences as well.
You could overhear the servers, who were offering other patrons the exact same level of service and quality of experience.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been quite so blown away during a restaurant review. Miller & Carter have certainly won us over as lifelong customers. And we’re definitely planning a future visit to the Southampton one when we go down to visit the family.
Thanks again to Miller & Carter for an absolutely smashing evening.
But that’s not all! She said like a game-show host. Because the folks at Miller & Carter are super generous, they’re letting me host a ~ £50 giveaway~ over on my Instagram to one of their restaurants.
Here’s the lowdown:

Easy as can be. They will be selecting winners next Friday! So you’ve got a week to get yourself AND your friends involved. And like I said, £50 will get you a hell of a lot and a fantastic dinner out.
