Now that I’m living back in the states for a bit, I have a confession to make.
I’m going a little bit product mad.
I’ve found that most health and beauty products (and things in general) are cheaper in the U.S. than abroad.
So while I’ve restricted myself over the past year, it’s time to break free.
Within just two weeks of being home, I have:
1. Tried a juice cleanse
2. Tested Bumble and bumble’s surf spray
3. Finally purchased BB cream
4. Ordered an onslaught of products from Ulta
5. Bought whey protein (chocolate flavored, obviously)
I know, I have a problem.
Luckily my problem leads to good products testing for all my readers out there.
So without further ado, let’s chat about Estée Lauder’s BB Cream.
When it comes to my makeup, I like to splurge on products that give all over coverage, think foundations, powders and now, BB cream.
I’ve used cheaper products in the past and they can end up looking cakey.
So, the reason for my switch from my usual Estée Lauder foundation?
I’ve been doing my BB cream research, and it is a lighter feeling product, more easily described as a tinted moisturizer. In fact, Googling BB cream brings up this answer, “This versatile skin care/makeup hybrid promises to do the job of five or six other jars and tubes: moisturizer, primer, sunscreen, skin treatment, concealer, and foundation.”
My skin doesn’t necessarily need too much coverage, but I’m really into the idea of a tinted moisturizer, especially with this cold winter weather. Plus, Estée Lauder sneak an SPF 30 into the BB cream. Which is perfect for pale skin like mine.
So let’s see how it works. I purchased the Intensity 2.0, ideal for pale skin. The color intensities range from 2.0-6.0, apparently 1.0 is too pale for any product consideration.
When you first put the BB cream on your face, it feels a bit thick. Don’t worry, it isn’t.
Once you blend (I used my fingers, but I’m sure there is a lovely blending tool out there for all makeup gurus out there) and adjust, you can’t even feel it. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for as far as a light overall coverage goes.
It’s hard to do this product justice with my struggling camera.
But, I’ve really been loving using the Estée Lauder BB cream as of late, it makes my skin glow and look fresher than when I used foundation.
Granted, there are probably cheaper versions out there on the market. But like I said, I’m a sucker for exceptional skin care.
If you’re looking for a great BB cream, I’d check this out. It’s $38 for this 1oz. bottle (tube?) which you can pick up at most department store makeup counters (Lord&Taylor, Macy’s, Nordstrom). Plus they will make sure to do a color match with your skin tone, helping you get exactly the right color intensity.
So, what do you guys think?
Does anyone out there currently use a BB cream? If so, what products do you use?
Anyone thinking about starting to use a BB cream versus the usual foundation?
Let’s chat below about it! I love getting all your opinions and feedback on products!

Thanks for reviewing this! I live in Chicago and find that I need something a bit thicker in winter – when the dryness and harsh wind make my fine lines more visible – instead of Bare Escentuals pressed powder (and thus more moisturizing) last year I used Too Faced’s BB creme, which is somewhere between a liquid and a solid, but I am looking for something more like the Estee Lauder product. I may have to get a sample to test it out myself!

Ugh. These harsh winter weathers are such a skin killer, aren’t they? My skin usually dries out immediately when the weather changes. So I feel you.
I’d definitely recommend hitting up your local beauty counter for some samples of the BB. It’s a relatively new product, so my guess is they have loads of samples that they’re eager to get out there! 🙂 X

I’ve recently bought one from the body shop. I read great reviews about it so I thought I’d try it out…but I must be doing something wrong ‘cos I can’t see what all the fuss is about honestly. After reading your review I’m up for trying this one 🙂

It sounds so silly to be this excited over makeup. But honestly, since I’ve started using it my skin has been less dry and I’ve had less breakouts. In fairness, my skin isn’t very blemish prone to begin with but I have noticed the difference. Try and pick up some samples to see if you like it or if it beats the Body Shop product. Let me know what you think! X

I’ll definitely put it on my ‘To Buy’ list. Once I’ve tried it I’ll let you know. Thanks for the review 🙂 xx

I use Smashbox’s BB cream along with their concealer, but it’s a bit out of my budget to use all of the time, so at the moment I just use it on good skin days when I don’t feel the need to hide behind a generous coating of foundation!

It’s totally a splurge product, I know. At least with this, you don’t really have to put too much on to get overall coverage. But there’s always the fallback of a good helping of foundation for when our skin is the enemy! 🙂 X
