Fun winter nights are meant for cuddling, warm blankets and a hot cup of cider.
I’ve always had a love affair with winter. Just like forever idol Lauren Graham’s character Lorelai in Gilmore Girls, I can smell snow on it’s way. I can feel a cold frost in the air. I know my winters.
Until I moved to London.
No snow in sight, simply freezing cold temperatures, a flat that doesn’t want to heat itself and no foolproof winter coping mechanisms. Over the past few years, I’ve been trying to find the best way to deal with it, other than wrapping up in endless layers of clothing.
Enter an all time fun favourite – hot alcoholic drinks. I always thought it was simply spiked hot chocolate that did the trick, but England thrives on mulled wine and cider. I’ve become a lover of cider throughout trips to Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland and any Christmas market you can spot. The trick is to warming it to the perfect temperature – and adding in garnish to enhance the flavour.
I’ve also discovered the easiest recipe to impress this winter.
Say hello to your new drink of choice, Rekorderlig’s Spiced Plum Cider, the ultimate for keeping warm on a cool night.
I’ve always been a fan of their ciders since coming to England and I have to say, this is my favourite flavour to date, I’m obsessed with the Spiced Plum. It takes the flavour of plum and combines it with cherry and a mix of spices, including clove and cinnamon.
I couldn’t make this go to recipe easier if I tried.
All you need is:
- a saucepan to heat up the cider
- slice some oranges
- garnish with rosemary and cinnamon sticks.
VOILÀ. I sent a photo of this to my friend Grace, who literally got up and came over to my flat to have one. It’s powerful stuff you guys.
And it’s as simple as that. Seriously.
I’d recommend finding clear glasses for serving to enhance the overall experience. People will be impressed by all of this. I promise you.
It’s either that or I’ve set the bar incredibly low for my loved ones… Also, be sure to add a bar of dark chocolate to enjoy alongside this hot delight. The combination of flavours goes very well together. Or as I like to think, any excuse for a chocolate pairing.
PS. The extra great thing about this Rekorderlig cider is that it actually goes down tremendously smooth with ice. Consider this your newfound seasonal transition drink with Rekorderlig Spiced Plum cider taking you from cool winter nights to sunny spring days.
