Clearly it’s a good thing that I’m in possession of a UK visa, because I have something to admit… I’ve been a terrible American.
I’d never even heard of the famed Shake Shack until I moved to London.
I know.
Except, it may not be such a strange thing. It’s actually a very rare occasion when I indulge in a burger and fries. But sometimes… hey, it needs to happen.
And on a crisp Friday night after a long day hard at work, we popped over to Covent Garden to try out Shake Shack’s latest. The Yard Burger. A celebration in honor of St. George’s Day!
Queues were out the door. Shake Shack is constantly buzzing. I’ve been past it before, so I can attest that it’s not only a madhouse on Friday nights. It’s constantly in demand. Which was no matter because I needed plenty of time to decide what I wanted to order. I was utterly baffled at what to get. There are so many options. Luckily, they have an incredibly helpful staff who sorted us out with ideas…
So you order inside, then are given a little buzzer that will alert you when to head to the pick up window to collect your treats. Despite the appearance of chaos, it’s a relatively simple process.
So let me present to you, a feast fit for kings.
The Yard Burger. A specialty complete with Neal’s Yard Montgomery Cheddar cheese, pickled onions and Shake Shack specialty sauce.
Okay, admittedly, I ordered the onions on the side. I’ve never been a big lover of them. However, for the sake of a proper review, I tried them. They were surprisingly on the sweet side and I could definitely see how they’d compliment the Yard Burger.
As I said, I’d never tried a Shake Shack burger before. Honestly, it may be one of the best, if not the actual best burger I’ve ever tasted. It was cooked perfectly and I think it may have melted, literally melted in my mouth. This is a burger that dreams are made of.
J had the double burger and after I finished my single one, I swear to you, I had another bite of his. It’s that good. Just order the double. Or just two burgers all for yourself. It’s okay to be greedy, I’ve heard a rumor that calories don’t count when it’s the weekend. Shhh…
We also had fries. A plain order and one with cheese.
Both delicious. Can’t find a complaint here.
Then naturally, we moved onto the sweets. J tried out the Pretzel Caramel shake.
It was amazing. Such a good mix of salt and sweet.
And well, we also got one of their concretes, The Big Blend. Kind of like a McFlurry. But you know, a hell of a lot nicer. It’s a mix of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, with brownie and a brown sugar biscuit.
I know, I’m sorry to torment you like this with all these incredibly indulgent treats.
Unfortunately, I believe the Yard Burger is no more. I’m sorry! I’ve teased you with it and now I’m taking away your options. But believe me, Shake Shack seems to be amazing regardless of what special you order. I have full plans to go back for a simple cheeseburger.
So just get yourself over to Shake Shack and order up. (PS. If you do, can I get a side of fries? Thanks!)
Kelly xoxo
