A week ago, J and I celebrated six months of marriage. (Eeeeeeeee!!!)
These are mega milestones, obviously. We’ve been together for over three years now and yet we still think it’s fun to celebrate little anniversaries. Since our wedding in June, we’ve taken time every month on the seventh to indulge in something extra that day. Whether that’s going out for dinner or grabbing drinks…we spend time celebrating.
On this particular occassion, J decided to take the innitiative and plan a little something without giving me any details. The night of December 6th, he conceded only one and said ‘Okay, one clue. We’re getting up early.’ Music to my ears. With a smile, I exclaimed, “Breakfast!”
The next day we got up early and caught the tube to Sloane Square where we headed to The Botanist. It looked lovely. Unique and interesting. And we’re pretty big breakfast fans, so we were keen to tuck in.
The Botanist is located along a bustling street just off Sloane Square. It’s impossibly easy to get to and find. J made reservations, so we waltzed right in at 10AM to our table. The restaurant was fairly empty when we were seated, but it was still early. By the time we left a bit later it was completely filled.
We took our seats and the hostess took our drink orders. Two Americanos.
While we waited, we took a look at the menu and checked out our surroundsings. The Botanist does have a beautiful space. Very modern.
A few minutes later a waiter came over and we ordered our breakfasts. Still no sign of our coffees. Considering we ordered these literally the minute we sat down, I would have expected the service to be a bit quicker. They came out after about 15 (maybe even 20) minutes.
If you’re an avid Flat Eleven reader, you know that I live for my morning coffee, or anytime of day coffee really. So this wasn’t exactly a great start to a loving relationship with The Botanist. However, great company can always make up for it.
Finally our coffees arrived and I could start living again.
J added in a bit of milk and sugar to sweeten up his cup.
And as usual, I kept my coffee black and bitter.
For what it’s worth, the coffees were pretty great.
And our breakfasts arrived shortly after. I ordered the granola, greek yogurt and honey.
I don’t really know what I was expecting, but I ended up actually like the way it was presented.
A big bowl of granola.
And a side plate of greek yogurt with honey.
I was expecting everything to be on the same plate, mixed in together rather than in the assembly line I was brought. I think I would have preferred everything in one bowl. But what can you do?
Actually, it ended up being great greek yogurt and granola. The granola wasn’t sugary, which I loved. So I was delightedly happy with my choice.
J ordered the scrambled eggs and toast. Well, I tried it and it was absolutely amazing. Like the best eggs ever. Immediate breakfast envy to the extreme.
I almost forgot! We ordered the banana and bran muffin as well. Unfortunately, I didn’t even get a photo of it, we gobbled it up so quickly.
We took our time relaxing after we ate, plus the views of The Botanist are really lovely. I feel in love with the old look of the ceiling lights. And outside, taxis and buses were rushing by, and people headed off to do their Christmas shopping…
Naturally, as it’s London, it had started to rain as we were leaving.
It was the perfect start to the day and to celebrate six months with my best friend.
I’d recommend The Botanist as a breakfast or brunch spot. I enjoyed all of the food and drinks we ordered. But going into it, be weary of how long it may take to be served. I’m still a bit grudgey over the coffee.

I love the Botanist for brunch, but I’d be annoyed by the long wait time, I’d be clawing the table, in dire need of my coffee! Mr S and I love celebrating little milestones and always look forward to anniversaries!!
Lots of love,

I love celebrating the little things! I’m glad we aren’t the only ones. And yes, the Botanist was really lovely, but umm if I’m not properly caffeinated in the mornings there’s going to be trouble. xox

London has always been one of the pale I wish to visit in the future. I have a few friends from there and listening to their stories about the city, it’s just amazing. The Botanists looks like a lovely place for food and how sweet is it for your husband to try and surprise you. Mine would have completely forgotten. LOL!

Aw, I’m sure you’re husband would do the same. Just give him a little nudge next time in the right direction (aka “take me out for breakfast!”) If you ever need a recommendation for a place while you’re visiting, just give me a shout! xox
