I’m a big fan of finding little places off the beaten path. The kind of place you might walk by because it’s not overflowing with people waiting to get in.
These are always the best places. They’re not gaudy, are a bit tacky and happen to be a little bit underappreciated.
Romano’s is one of those places.
A short walk up from High Street Kensington, you’d walk right by Romano’s if you weren’t paying attention.
J and I were craving pizza in a major way on this evening and we didn’t want to have to go too far away. After a quick search, I found Romano’s and declared that’s where we were off to.
I didn’t make a reservation, but at 7:30PM we walked in and were shown straight to an open table. This made me extremely happy.
It’s a quiet little restaurant that continuously filled up as the night went on.
The tables are simple, white and beige tableclothes with basic cutlery. There were Christmas decorations lovingly placed all over the place… really all over the restaurant. A little tacky? Sure. But I loved it, it’s the kind of place you know must be family run for however many years.
We took our seats and ordered two glasses of wine. I don’t normally go into the pricing of places I visit. But I can’t help myself with this one. A large glass of wine cost £3.50. Like a really decent large glass. We nearly fell out of our chairs when we saw the price.
I love that in Kensington, an area of London that can be completely overpriced, Romano’s stays true to keeping their price affordable. You can actually have a nice evening out and have a few drinks.
Unfortunately, we weren’t looking to try out their whole menu. We had one food on the brain: pizza.
Two margherita pizzas please!
Our pizzas didn’t come out right away. We watched others who had been seated when we walked in have their meals brought to their tables, a fresh garlic aroma in the air. The entire restaurant smelled amazing.
I like that our pizzas didn’t come out immediately. That gave J and I time to catch up over a glass of wine and to enjoy each other’s company.
But when they brought out our food… we immediately dug in.
Giant pizzas arrived and enguled the table.
Our eyes widened and we both grabbed our utensils as fast as we could.
Overall? I’d say that the pizza was pretty good. Not award winning or anything, but great comfort food on a cold evening.
It’s fair to say that we’ve found a new place that we love. It’s the atmosphere. The servers were always nearby, but never too intrusive. They were friendly. And it’s the price point. For quick last minute dinner plans you needn’t look any further.
Do you have a favorite dive place in London? If so, let me know! I’m always on the lookout for new spots!

I love finding places like this! £3.50 for a big glass of wine in London is brilliant! Next time I’m in the area I’ll definitely have to hunt down little independents like this rather than going to a big chain

Oh my gosh those pizzas are killing me. I already know how it tastes. I live for pizzas that are served as my own entree. Don’t touch my pizza.

You’ve got me cracking up, basically any pizza that fills the entire plate is a winner for me too! xox
