Alright, it’s January and you’re ready to take on 2016 with a BANG.
Except um, hold your fire. Nobody is perfect… and we all tend to fall off the bandwagon sometimes when it comes to our New Year new goals. By March, I’ll barely remember three of mine.
So I’ve devised what will be yours (and my) five ways to keep New Year’s goals on track.
5 Ways to Keep Your New Year’s Goals
1. App Happy
Thank the Apple geniuses who invented these babies. Without them, life would be in ruin. Ruin. Get a little bit app happy and download a handful that will help you towards your goals. I’ve just downloaded Headspace, Pocket, and WhenToGram (yes, I really did download a WhenToGram app and I’m not even sorry).
2. Be Mindful
It sounds so zen, but it’s true. Be mindful. Think before you impulsively act. Process before big and small decisions. Trying to get in shape this year? Maybe don’t rush home and shove literally the contents of the fridge into your mouth (**me**).
3. Alerts and Reminders
Hey, it’s okay to 100% rely on technology. Set yourself little reminders that keep you in check. Like at 12pm, maybe set a reminder that yes, you packed a lunch and to not go out and spend £12 on a sandwich when your goal is saving money. London’s too expensive. Set the damn reminder.
4. Chat up your mates
Not like that, I mean unless that’s your New Year goal. What I’m trying to say, is be vocal about what you want to achieve. When people know what you’re up to, there’s a certain extra accountability. When I was doing my juice cleanse, my coworker scolded me for eating a sandwich (I was starving, okay?) But I totally should have listened to her. I paid for a juice cleanse and I couldn’t properly complete it. And I regretted not being all in for it. Lesson is: tell your mates and get them on board.
5. Treats and rewards!
The good part! Yep, I’m even encouraging a little bit of ~fun~ with your fast track to success. Rewards are what ultimately keep us motivated. Whether its the number you see on the scale or your bank balance rising. Still… every now and then you need a treat. So indulge and go for it! If you’re moving into fitness territory make sure to have your indulgent days. Get the brownie okay? If you want to read more this year (like I do) treat yourself to a new book each time you finish one. Before you know it your home will look like the Trinity College Library in Dublin.
There you have it pals. The tricks and tips of successful goal-keeping from the girl who cannot count on one hand the number of New Year’s goals completed in my lifetime. But hey, I’ve got a good feeling about 2016.
What are you tips for staying on track?
Kelly xoxo
