Alright, alright, you thought I was here to chat recycling…
No, not quite.
In honor of Halloween, it’s time to get creative and even a little bit festive.
So today on Flat Eleven, we’re going Green With Envy. Yes, that’s what I’m calling this cocktail, as it’s likely to induce jealousy from party goers who didn’t dream up this idea for their Halloween bash.
Because I’m hosting a little pre-Hallows Eve soirée at my place this week, over the weekend I set out to test out some possibilites.
Nothing screams Halloween like a bright green cocktail…
So I got to “work.”
Green With Envy
What you’ll need:
2 oz Midori* Melon Liquor (creates that ghoulish green)
3 oz Vodka (alternatively, I recommend a generous pour)
Ginger ale (or try a lemonade/sprite for a sweeter flavor)
1-2 limes
1/2 lemon
Sugar for the glass
I like to opt for drinks that are more alcohol and less sugary sweet, but J definitely has a sweet tooth so I indulged him with the sugar lined glass.
My recommendation to create Green With Envy:
Cut up the limes and lemon first. If you like a sweeter flavor, go with more lime. Sour? Go with more lemon. It’s all up to your individual preference.
Pour the vodka and Midori into the shaker. Add the ginger ale or lemonade. If you want a stronger drink, less gingerale. Weaker? Add more. Now squeeze the lime and lemon into the shaker and then toss them in. PS. It’s best to have all of these ingredients cool from being stored in the fridge. If they are warm, add ice to the mix.
Now, Shake it off up!
Onto the glasses! Use a lime (or lemon) wedge to line the glass edge, so that there’s enough liquid to pick up the sugar. Then get a plate or bowl and fill it with granulated sugar. Again, if you can always interchange this for salt if that’s your preference. Or nothing at all. It adds for a nice bit of decor though, and is such an easy way to impress guests.
Simply dip the glass rim into the sugar and violà! You have a gorgeous (and delicious) glass!
Pour the cocktail and there you have it.
Perfection. And your guests will be Green With Envy.
It’s about the simpliest cocktail to make and a good one for Halloween.. or if you’re thinking ahead, even Christmas!
Anyone else throwing Halloween parties?
Also, let me know your costume plans… I’m still on the lookout for mine.
Likely, it will be a last minute cat. But I’d like to get a little more clever this year…

Thanks! I hadn’t had much experience with Midori in the past, but it’s such a fun option for holidays or cocktail parties. Let me know how it goes at Christmastime! xox
