There’s a little spot in Holborn that I’ve had my eye on for awhile…
Alright. Maybe it’s not so little afterall.
Ever heard of the Rosewood?
No, no. Don’t confuse it with Citizen Kane’s famous rosebud. (Although, I always call it that anyways).
The Rosewood is a newish hotel in London. It’s extravagent, eloquent, lush, indulgent… it’s basically beautiful.
I’ve been enamored with it for the past year after we stumbled across it for drinks.
Of course, I always knew that the Rosewood had a restaurant, but little did I know, The Holborn Dining Room is a fairly affordable one.
So about a week ago, I decided to surprise the gentlemen and booked us into The Holborn Dining Room for a late dinner. J is also a bit obsessed with The Rosewood… so when we began walking down Holborn street, he immediately guessed it.
I’ve never been good at surprises!
Just inside those windows on this side of the hotel is the Scafes Bar. It’s really interesting. Old timey, cozy, unique, boozey. It’s fun. Pop in there if you get a chance too…
But I digress. We’re headed for dinner.
The Holborn Dining Room.
You step inside and are immediately greeted by a beautiful dining room.
The Holborn Dining room gives off the feeling that your could rock either jeans and a tee or an elegant evening dress. In fact, we saw people with both.
We were seated at a cozy little table.
And at 8:30PM on a Saturday night…the dining room was only just starting to fill up.
The lights are low, atmosphere romantic.
The decor truly is worth going in for, I love the seating at the bar, the lighting.
But obviously, we came for the good, and we went in starving. So we ordered ASAP.
A starter of the ancient loaf bread and butter for the table. The bread is not gratuitous.
Also, slightly worrying that they word it on the menu as the ancient loaf. Apparently we weren’t phased by this at the time though.
I expected the bread to be warm and fresh. This was silly, it’s called ancient loaf afterall. So it was a little hard to bite into.
I would probably recommend to skip it if you’re dining there. Maybe select olives instead.
Moving onto the main course, I ordered the mushroom and spelt risotto.
Honestly, it was so so so mouthwateringly good. I immediately regretted wasting any of my appetite on the bread because I wanted to lick the risotto plate clear. I didn’t, for the record.
J went for a simple burger from the grill.
The burger looked pretty phenomenal. But J said it was just alright.
We skipped out on dessert as we were full, but their menu looked lovely.
All in all, I’d say it’s worth a stop in if you’re looking for something a bit different. The staff was friendly and attentive. The pricing isn’t too expensive, but it’s not a dirt cheap spot either.
And I think we can all agree, that a place that takes reservations in London is excellent. Because sometimes, you aren’t in the mood to queue up.
Have any of you ever been to the Holborn Dining Room too? Let me know!
