A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of meeting with my friend Ross (fashionworked) to go shopping for the afternoon in Greenwich.
We both love scouring the markets and it had been ages since either of us had been all the way over the Greenwich, so we had a plan! He also brought along his lovely friend Maddy (oaktreeonahill). The more the merrier.
So we all journeyed to Greenwich. The last time I was there was about four years ago when I flew across the ocean to visit J and he took me on the ultimate sightseeing tour of London. (We visited the Royal Observatory and checked the time.)
So it had been awhile, and it was good to be back. Memories flooded through me as I looked around, remembering silly things like the tube station. It’s funny how things can overwhelmingly come back to you after so long. But we weren’t in Greenwich to check up on the clocks, we were there to check out all things vintage and unique.
The Greenwich market is fairly large, and definitely crowded. Vendors maintaining their stalls, buyers asking questions and looking at all of the little bits and bobs for sale. Incense heavily wafts around you as you shimmy through the maze of vendors. You can buy anything and everything. We enjoyed the wander, catching up on each other’s lives as we perused the displays.
I didn’t end up buying a thing unfortunately. But sometimes it’s more fun to simply look and wander around. I definitely don’t need to make a purchase to have called the day a success.
Besides, I think we all became a bit more interested in the food section of the market after we’d made our way through everything.
Sweets and savouries galore!
And of course, a spot of sushi.
So maybe we were a little bit hungry. We decided to forgo the market food, however delicious it smelled in search of a warm restaurant tucked inside.
We bid adieu to the market.
A stones throw away, we found ourselves craving burgers and fries, so we headed into GBK
You’re probably familiar with the Gourmet Burger Kitchen. They are all over London and the rest of the United Kingdom.
Of course, I’d never been in one before so this is a newcomer’s experience.
We settled into a table on the second floor with views of the busy street below. It was cozy and comfortable… and good to finally be able to feel my hands again! We certainly picked a cold day to have market adventures.
Immediately, we picked out our meals.
Maddy opted for the Christmas special: Nutella milkshake, Blitzen burger and skinny fries.
The shake looked amazing. Instant food envy pulsed through my body.
And the Blitzen Burger…filled with crispy bacon, deep fried camemberet, ‘Mrs. Claus’ burger sauce, spinach and cranberry ketchup.
What a mouthful indeed!
Ross is a vegetarian so he opted for the Californian, which is a bean burger topped with cheddar, avocado, chilli mayo, onions and relish.
And for me? A simple cheeseburger with cheddar cheese. I know, compared to my dining companions, my choice was so boring.
And let’s face it, no burger is complete without a pile of fries.
I really enjoyed my burger and the fries. Ross said he wasn’t a big fan of his veggie burger. And I feel like I should have known Maddy’s thoughts on her meal. But I think I was so hungry I didn’t even ask! It looked pretty damn good, if that opinion suffices.
Oh. And did I mention that Maddy and I were the latest subjects for Ross’ Q & Eats section on his blog? After we stuffed ourselves silly, he got down to business asking us our questions. What I learned about myself through it? I had very boring answers. But I promise, I’m fairly interesting in real life! So stay tuned for the interview up on his website.
Overall, we had a great afternoon in Greenwich and it’s always lovely to meet new friendly faces as well, so it was lovely that I could meet Maddy too.
Now we just need to plan another market adventure soon I think…
