Would you spend the night in this medieval castle? Welcome to the one of the loveliest castles in the world, Leeds Castle 🏰✨🌅

With over 900 years of history, Leeds Castle is a stunning medieval castle set across two islands in the middle of a lake. It’s genuinely one of the prettiest castle settings I’ve ever been to!

And I can’t believe it took me so long to get here. Known for being the Castle of Queens, Queen of Castles, it was owned by six medieval Queens of England: Eleanor of Castile, Isabella of France, Anne of Bohemia, Joan of Navarre, Margaret of France and Catherine De Valois. And in the 16th century, Henry VIII used it as a royal palace for his first wife, Catherine of Aragon.

You can even stay here overnight! We stayed in the Maiden’s Tower which overlooks Leeds Castle itself (you can see the rainbow right over the Tower in this video 🌈)!

It’s giving running from The Beast vibes ✨🐺🥀

These structures situated here do look quite grand, but they’re actually considered follies. Which if you don’t know is a building that was constructed primarily for decoration, but suggesting through its grand appearance another purpose. Kind of like a false entrance to a castle because these actually led to Ballysaggartmore House which was considered large, but not quite so sophisticated. Pretty interesting history! Kind of like having a very impressive driveway to a very boring home!

Magic in the Lake District 🕯️📖

The little stone cottage, known as The Grot, was built in 1668 by Sir Daniel Fleming, designed as the perfect place to frame and enjoy Rydal Falls 😍

Even William Wordsworth was particularly fond of visiting the Grot… I only wonder if Taylor Swift stumbled upon it too!
