Hey, fellow witches and wizards!
Welcome to your one-stop guide to one of the most magical experiences you can have in London: the WB Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.
Now, if you’re anything like me, the thought of stepping into the world of Harry Potter probably has you bubbling with excitement. In fact, I’ve travelled to many Harry Potter locations over the years – I love this world so much!
But before you grab your broomstick and take off, let’s talk about everything you need to know to make the most out of your visit.
Trust me, you’ll want to be prepared for this adventure!
The Making Of Harry Potter: WB Studio Tour London
Getting There: The Journey to Hogwarts Begins
First things first, let’s talk logistics.
The WB Studio Tour is located in Leavesden, about 20 miles northwest of Central London. You’ve got a couple of options for getting there:
By Train
Hop on a train from London Euston to Watford Junction. It’s a quick 20-minute ride. From Watford Junction, there’s a special shuttle bus that runs to the studio, and it’s an easy way to get there. Plus, it feels kind of like the Knight Bus!
By Car
If you’re driving, there’s plenty of parking at the studio, and it’s free. Just pop “Warner Bros. Studio Tour London” into your Sat Nav, and you’re good to go. Pro tip: The car park has clear signage, so no need to worry about getting lost in a maze of cars. And don’t worry—no flying Ford Anglias required!
Booking Tickets: Your Golden Ticket to the Wizarding World
Book your tickets in advance. Seriously, this place is super popular, and you won’t want to miss out.
Tickets are timed entry, so pick a slot that works for you. I’d recommend giving yourself at least three to four hours to explore because you’ll want to soak it all in.
Also, if you’re planning a trip during school holidays or the summer, try to book a couple of months in advance to secure your preferred time slot.
What to Expect: A Magical Experience Awaits at the WB Studio Tour London
Alright, here’s the fun part!
Once you arrive, you’ll enter a world where magic is real (or at least, it feels like it).
The studio is divided into different sections, each offering a deep dive into the making of the Harry Potter films. Here’s a sneak peek at what you’ll find:
The Great Hall
Yes, you get to walk through the very same Great Hall where the Sorting Hat Ceremony happens. It’s just as grand in person, and don’t forget to look out for all the little details, like the house points hourglasses and the Yule Ball decorations.
The Common Rooms
Be sure to check out the Gryffindor Common rooms as well as the Slytherin Common room! I especially love when they are all decorated for the holidays.
New sets include: Professor Trelawney’s Classroom and the Defense Against the Dark Arts room
There are a few new sets that you won’t want to miss! The stacked teacups are so cool!
The Forbidden Forest
Ready to face Aragog? This part of the tour is eerie and atmospheric, with giant spiders and the trees of the Forbidden Forest towering over you.
Platform 9 ¾ and the Hogwarts Express:
All aboard! You can actually step inside the Hogwarts Express and wander along the carriages. I love peeking into the compartments!
And of course, spot Platform 9 ¾. It’s the perfect set up for that iconic “running through the wall” photo op.
Gringotts Wizarding Bank:
I really do love shiny things and all that glitters is the Gringotts Wizarding Bank!
It’s a jaw-dropping Gringotts set and just around the corner you miiiiiight just run into an escaped dragon!
Diagon Alley:
Stroll through Diagon Alley and marvel at the detailed set, from Ollivander’s to Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. It’s honestly like the movies came to life.
And let’s not forget the Creature Effects section where you’ll see everything from Dobby to the Basilisk, and the Art Department which showcases the incredible concept art that brought the Wizarding World to life.
The Grand Finale: Hogwarts Castle
As you near the end of the tour, you’ll come to the model room.
This continues to be one of my favourite parts of the tour – and it’s made me tear up time and time again.
This room houses the breathtaking model of Hogwarts Castle that was used in the films.
It’s enormous, intricate, and beautifully lit. The music from the films will make you super emotional too!
It’s the perfect way to end your journey through the Wizarding World.
Must-Try Experiences: Sip Butterbeer and Cast a Spell
While you’re there, make sure you:
Try the Butterbeer
No trip to the WB Studio Tour London is complete without a taste of Butterbeer. It’s a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it kind of drink, but you’ve got to try it at least once. You can get it as a drink, ice cream, or even take home a souvenir bottle.
Green Screen Fun
Ever wanted to fly a broomstick or appear in the scenes from the films? The studio offers green screen experiences where you can do just that. It’s a bit of a splurge, but the photos and videos are priceless souvenirs.
Shopping at the Studio: Souvenirs Galore!
Let’s talk shopping—because who doesn’t want to take home a little piece of the magic?
The gift shop at the end of the tour is a treasure trove for Harry Potter fans.
Whether you’re after a wand, a replica of the Marauder’s Map, or even your very own Hogwarts robe, you’ll find it here. Just be prepared… it’s easy to get carried away!
Tips for Your Visit: Making the Most of Your Day at WB Studio Tour london
Arrive Early
If you can, aim to arrive a bit before your entry time. There’s usually a bit of a queue to get in, especially during peak times, so it’s best to be early and start your adventure without any rush.
Take Your Time
This isn’t the kind of place you want to rush through. Take your time to read the information, watch the behind-the-scenes videos, and really absorb the magic. The more you explore, the more details you’ll notice.
Bring a Camera
Photos are encouraged so make sure your phone or camera is fully charged. There are so many Insta-worthy spots, you’ll want to capture every moment.
Check the Website for Special Events
The studio often hosts special events and seasonal celebrations, like the Hogwarts in the Snow event during Christmas – I am so lucky to have attended a few! It’s worth checking their website before you go to see if there’s anything extra magical happening during your visit.
The Magic Lives On
Visiting the WB Harry Potter Studio Tour is an absolute must for any Harry Potter fan, or anyone who appreciates the artistry of filmmaking. Whether you’re 9 or 99, it’s impossible not to be swept up in the magic.
So grab your tickets, pack your robes, and get ready for a day of pure enchantment.
And don’t forget to wave goodbye to the castle model on your way out—it’s a little sad to leave the WB Studio Tour London, but don’t worry, the magic will stay with you long after you’ve gone.
Until next time, mischief managed! ✨
