Ireland continues to be one of my favourite places in the world to visit.
There are so many sites, locations and places that feel as though it’s been plucked from the pages of a storybook.
With its misty landscapes, ancient ruins, and timeless tales, every corner has its own whisper of magic that keeps calling me back. And I hope it calls to you too!
Here are 12 enchanting magical destinations that will ignite your wanderlust to visit the isle of Ireland

1. Kylemore Abbey
Nestled in the heart of Connemara, Kylemore Abbey looks like a dream reflected on the tranquil Pollacapall Lough. This 19th-century castle turned Benedictine monastery is steeped in romance and mystery. Wander through the walled Victorian gardens and lose yourself in the serene beauty of this magical retreat.

2. Blarney Castle
No trip to Ireland is complete without a visit to Blarney Castle, home to the world-famous Blarney Stone! Legend has it that kissing this mystical stone bestows the gift of eloquence. Climb the castle steps to the top to take your turn kissing the stone!
We both kissed the stone, so I’m just waiting on my gift of gab to arrive…!
But beyond the stone, the castle’s grounds feature mysterious rock formations like the Wishing Steps and the Poison Garden – a personal favourite of mine!

3. Ballinastoe Woods
Step into the ethereal beauty of Ballinastoe Woods, where towering trees and soft mossy carpets create an otherworldly atmosphere like stepping into the pages of a novel.
This forest, located near the Wicklow Mountains, is perfect for dreamy walks and is known for its cinematic landscapes.

4. Rock of Cashel
The Rock of Cashel rises dramatically from the plains of County Tipperary, its silhouette unmistakably iconic.
Once the seat of Irish kings and a site of religious significance, this ancient fortress feels alive with history. Visit at sunrise or sunset, when the golden light adds a mystical glow to the already spellbinding ruins.

5. Rock of Dunamase
Perched high on a hill in County Laois, the Rock of Dunamase is a lesser-known gem with panoramic views and crumbling medieval ruins.
It’s the kind of place where you half-expect to see knights and queens still roaming the grounds. I loved visiting here as it’s also a quieter tourism location, you can take your time soaking everything in without a crowd.

6. The Long Room Library
Walking into the Long Room Library at Trinity College Dublin is like stepping into a portal into my heaven!
Rows of ancient books line towering wooden shelves, and the faint scent of aged parchment fills the air. It’s a paradise for book lovers and dreamers alike.
The Long Room Library is currently undergoing a restoration where the books are being removed BUT it’s still well worth a visit to this historic site.

7. Ashford Castle
This grand 13th-century castle in County Mayo has been transformed into one of the most luxurious hotels in the world.
Wander the immaculate grounds, book in for afternoon tea (or the night!!) and simply revel in the castle’s fairytale charm.

8. Cliffs of Moher
The Cliffs of Moher need no introduction. Their sheer, dramatic drop into the Atlantic Ocean is awe-inspiring.
Standing on the edge, with the wind swirling around you and waves crashing below, you can’t help but feel a connection to something greater, a wild, untamed magic.

9. Marsh’s Library
Tucked away in Dublin, Marsh’s Library is a hidden gem of literary history. While most people think to go to Trinity College’s Long Room Library – Marsh’s Library is a quieter space to visit.
This 18th-century library has remained almost unchanged for centuries, with its dark wooden bookcases and ladders straight out of a magical story. Time seems to stand still here, making it a perfect place to lose yourself among ancient texts.

10. Glenveagh Castle
Set against the rugged backdrop of Glenveagh National Park in County Donegal, Glenveagh Castle truly feels like it belongs in a fairytale.
Explore its gardens, stroll along Lough Beagh, and let the wild beauty of this hidden treasure transport you to another era.

11. Dromoland Castle
A jewel of County Clare, Dromoland Castle is a beacon of elegance and history.
Once the ancestral home of the O’Briens of Dromoland, it’s now a luxurious retreat where you can indulge your inner royalty. From its ivy-clad towers to its pristine gardens, every detail is utterly enchanting.

12. Ballysaggartmore Towers
Often referred to as Ireland’s “folly towers,” Ballysaggartmore Towers in County Waterford are steeped in mystery.
These Gothic gatehouses, built in the 19th century, look like the entrance to a magical realm… but in reality a folly is that it doesn’t lead anywhere grand at all. The follys are what is the grand here!
It feels like stepping into a storybook for sure.
Ireland’s beauty is a spellbinding blend of nature, history, and mythology. These are just scratching the surface of all of the magic that is in this country… and I can’t wait to continue adding to this list and exploring so much more!
