For those of you who have been following my social media accounts, you’ll know that a few weeks ago, I was back in the states. From New York City to the great city of Buffalo, New York, we definitely had our fair share of being on the go in a week’s time.
There’s still always one place that we make a pilgrimage to every time we’re back. It has our hearts – and our stomachs love. Meet The Bar Bill Tavern. Located in East Aurora, NY, this wings and things joint is a must add to your list (you know, if you’re actually ever in Buffalo).
Bar Bill are famous for their Beef on Weck, a classic Western New York dish. It’s made with roast beef on a kummelweck roll, topped with salt and caraway seeds. The meat on the sandwich is traditionally served rare and thin cut and spread with horseradish. YUM.
They do this sandwich ever so well alongside literally all the wings. We have a variation of the same order every time we go because, why not? Don’t fix a phenomenal thing guys.
The standard order on a visit back:
- Split a Beef on Weck.
- 10 Medium Wings. (For me!)
- 20 BBQ Wings
- 10 Cajun Wings
It’s serious ordering business and we always go with our friends Emma and Al, where we make it a night of drinking cold, cheap beer – truly it’s $3 for a giant pint – and eating spicy wings while we catch up on the latest in each other’s lives.
This time, we broke tradition a little bit and when our friends left to go back to their kids (responsibility), Joe and I headed to the bar at Bar Bill to indulge in a few more rounds. We never really go out just the two of us while we’re home. We’re always squeezing in a visit with friends or getting together with family during out limited time. There’s no chill time whatsoever on our agenda. So it was nice to sit down together and grab another $3 beer.
Without a doubt, the Bar Bill tavern is my favourite place to go when I’m home. And we always get stuck into eating too much for our own good.
Do you have a local spot at home that you just couldn’t go back without visiting?
