Picture this: rolling Italian hills, sun-kissed scenery, and a dreamy estate that feels straight out of a fairytale…
Sound like your kind of place? Me too! Now, let’s dive in!
I’m about to take you on a journey through my latest adventure at the enchanting Borgo Pignano in Tuscany, Italy.
The Arrival
Oh my goodness, the arrival at Borgo Pignano was like stepping into a postcard! As we drove up, my heart skipped a beat, the estate is a sprawling 750-acre paradise with the most stunning stone buildings dating back to the 18th century.
Seriously, you guys, it’s like living in a historical romance novel!
The staff welcomed us with the warmest smiles and a refreshing drink – rosé prosecco, anyone?
We checked in seamlessly, our bags were whisked away, and we embarked on a mini-tour of the estate. Talk about a grand entrance!
The Accommodations
Let’s talk rooms, shall we? Borgo Pignano offers a variety of accommodations including rooms, suites, maisonettes, and villas.
The hotel features 14 rooms and suites within the main villa, each with unique touches such as original frescoes and en-suite marble bathrooms. In addition to the rooms and suites, there are several maisonettes and villas that provide more private and spacious accommodations, often with kitchens and living areas
We stayed in The Artist Studio which is separate to the main villa but right above reception – overlooking a gorgeous courtyard.
Our room was the epitome of rustic elegance—high, wood-beamed ceilings, antique furnishings, and a bed that felt like sleeping on a cloud.
It’s the perfect balance of charming rustic Tuscany meets modern comfort.
We even had our own little kitchen area where little treats, strawberries and a bottle of red wine awaited.
The Drinks and Dining Experience
Foodies, rejoice! Borgo Pignano’s dining experience is a culinary delight and a feast for the eyes!
They embrace a farm-to-table philosophy, using ingredients from their own organic gardens and local producers. Every meal was a flavour explosion of fresh, seasonal goodness.
Breakfast was a smorgasbord of pastries, fresh fruits, cheeses, and eggs cooked to order—hello, breakfast heaven!
Lunches and dinners were equally divine, with dishes that showcased the best of Italian cuisine. There’s a variety of choice here at Borgo Pignano too.
Try their Al Fresco Restaurant, a more informal, relaxed dining experience with a focus on fresh pizza and servings of pasta. The more formal dining is at Villa Pignano, their Michelin-star restaurant featuring a refined and innovative menu.
Of course, you have to ask for the most romantic table on the estate! On warm weather evenings, there sits a private table overlooking the gorgeous Borgo Pignano scenery. It was a little bit cold but we braved it for a night with these views!
It is a night that I’ll never forget!
The Activities
Borgo Pignano is an adventure playground for both relaxation lovers and thrill-seekers.
For those looking to chill, the infinity pool offers jaw-dropping views and a serene atmosphere. And we loved the pool service there too – Aperols on order at any time!
Feeling adventurous? The surrounding countryside is a dream for exploration.
One afternoon, we went horseback riding through the estate —so picturesque! And such a fun thing to do together.
Another day was dedicated to a cooking class where we learned to make traditional pasta dishes from scratch with the head chef. So fun and super rewarding sitting down afterwards to enjoy the efforts of our labours!
The Staff
Can we talk about the staff for a sec? They are the definition of hospitality!
From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect.
Whether it was arranging activities, making dining reservations, or just sharing a friendly chat, their dedication to guest happiness was clear in every interaction.
The Surroundings
Borgo Pignano’s location is ideal for exploring Tuscany’s gems.
The charming towns of Volterra and San Gimignano are just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Be sure to spend an afternoon wandering the medieval streets of San Gimignano, indulging in the best gelato, and soaking up the historic vibes.
