You must know I’m a fan of the Kensington area.
And J is a fan of rooftop bars, rooftop gardens, view of the city… well, he basically likes to hang out on rooftops.
So for Christmas I decided to get him a gift voucher for the perfect roof location: The Babylon restaurant at the Kensington Roof Gardens.
Now, you’ve probably guessed that this was also a sneaky gift for myself. Who else would he be taking out for dinner, right?
So we saved it until springtime, and ended up going out to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary.
Visiting the Kensington Roof Gardens is just like any other restaurant, except the views of the city are so incredibly different to what you’re used to in central.
You overlook the Kensington area rather than the typical central views. It makes for a shakeup to the routine that can’t be missed. The inside decor is modern and chic, and surprisingly bright.
But let’s get into the most important aspect, the food. It. Is. Incredible. Naturally, you start the evening with a selection of breads.
We decided to go with the two course menu, forgoing dessert to indulge in starters and mains.
J started with the Treacle Cured Loch Duart Salmon. Absolutely perfect bites of salmon.
I instead started with the summer truffle risotto. It’s difficult for me to pass on ordering risotto, and while it was delicious in every way, I think the salmon works as a better, lighter option for a starter. But still, I mean, it was pretty incredible.
J then moved onto the Cornish Crab Pasta. A little spicy for him, so it’s something that would have suited my palette excellently, but he was very happy with it.
In turn, I went with the Pan-Fried Hake fillet. It was like biting into heaven. I finished the plate. I almost could have licked it clean. Honestly the food is worth the raving about.
The Kensington Roof Gardens can do no wrong when it comes to their menu. Every dish is immaculately prepared.
Since we opted for the savory route, we passed on dessert. Although, this little treat happened to come our way.
A sweet touch, and Joe is pretty amazing at ensuring that we had a wonderful celebration.
The Kensington Roof Gardens is not typically your average post work dinner spot.
It’s meant for occasions. At all the tables surrounding us, people were celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and the like. But let’s be honest, I’m fairly confident that I could go in to celebrate finishing work for the day.
After finishing up dinner, we grabbed drinks outside and enjoyed the (semi) warm weather and more wine. It’s a tough life, I know.
The Kensington Roof Gardens also happens to include a nightclub, because why not? Anyways, if you enjoy dinner there, it’s only ten pounds per person to go in. Seeing as it was our anniversary, we decided to go for it. (Usually the cost to go in is £20 per person, as an FYI).
We dressed for the occasion. Also, that’s the only photo we took of ourselves that night, the food just really outshone us.
While I absolutely loved the Kensington Roof Gardens Babylon Restaurant, I would probably pass on the night out at the nightclub. But I’m absolutely counting down until we go back to visit the Babylon Restaurant Kensington Roof Gardens.
I mean, next time we have to get a proper dessert right?!

I’ve never eaten at the restaurant but I LOVE the nightclub! It’s one of my favourite clubs and I even had my birthday there this year. It’s definitely a place to go with a big group of friends though!
Happy Anniversary you guys!
