Afternoon tea might as well be one of my new hobbies.
As one of our wedding gifts, our amazing friends Clare and Olly gave us a gift certificate to visit The Langham for Afternoon Tea in their Palm Court room.
The Langham is reknowned for their Afternoon Tea. They even served it here in the 1800s to London’s high society. A bit more recently, their centerpiece – the Palm Court – has been operating for the last 150 years elegantly serving tea, sandwiches, treats and scones to patrons.
I’d been to The Langham’s Palm Court once before about a year and a half ago, before I started Flat Eleven and my blogging ventures. So I was keen to go back again.
And I was especially excited to visit The Langham at Christmas! I’m a sucker for the holidays, the decorations and the festive spirit that surrounds the end of the year.
We weren’t disappointed. A large beautifully decorated tree adorned the center of the Palm Court.
We were sat with a stunning view overlooking the room, and I couldn’t help but feel a bit like a queen.
First things first I’m the realest they came over with the largest champagne bottle to fill our glasses.
Then we happily picked out our teas. I really enjoy sipping on green tea during an afternoon tea (how often do I go for afternoon tea that I actually have a preferred feasting tea?!). So I picked out the Chun Mee, which essentially was a no nonsense basic green tea. Perfect.
Of course, J decided to go with a classic black, English breakfast tea.
They whisked away our menus and brought out the amuse bouche: red pepper brûlée with pine nuts.
It was a perfectly sized portion and we ate up every last bite. The brûlée was smooth and creamy without being too heavy. I loved the taste of the pine nuts mixed in as well.
Next up was the rounds of sandwiches. I say rounds because J felt it was most appropriate to have three helpings of these babies. Not that I blame him… they were quite good!
My favorites were the egg roll, ham and cheese roll and the cucumber sandwich. Annnd J loved them all, including the salmon and the chicken tarragon. Normally I love salmon, but I wasn’t a fan of this one.
We leisurely ate our first helping of sandwiches and then they came over with seconds on offer. Well, seconds quickly turned to thirds for J. For what it’s worth, The Langham will refill you on the sandwiches, so if that’s your favorite part of afternoon tea, you’re in luck! Needless to say, it was definitely an afternoon of indulgence.
Following our savories, the next in the afternoon tea lineup were the scones.
The scones in a summary? Warm, fresh melt in your mouth goodness.
I always prefer when scones are a bit smaller. It makes me feel like I’m eating less and allows me to gobble them up without feeling too guilty about polishing off an entire basket…
After munching on scones topped with cream and jam, we moved onto the pastries and delicate desserts.
These looked almost a little too put together to eat.
Turns out, they were.
We ventured our best to try them all, but honestly they were a bit too focused on presentation and not enough on taste. The best of the bunch was the chocolate, raspberry and pistachio treat. But I think we could have skipped the others in favor of more sandwiches and scones.
The desserts aside, we had a lovely afternoon at The Langham.
It’s absolutely worth the experience of visiting, it’s an iconic tea spot in London so I’d say you have to try it. Just load up on savories and scones!

Oooh it looks delish! I’m going in a couple of weeks with my mum and can’t wait! Shame about the desserts though, they’re always my favourite part!
