Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way to Westfield London.
Yes, it’s certainly that time of year again. And in the UK, it seems that every year Christmas approaches faster than ever before. So post-Halloween, we’re throwing pre-Christmas parties, sipping on mulled wine, getting into the spirit and well, nothing finalizes the arrival of Christmas like the lights.
Friday night was the perfect atmosphere. A cool evening in London brought us out to Westfield London, which seemingly pops up out of nowhere in this illustrious city, reminding me of my beloved shopping malls back in America (ah, the good times).
When I was asked to be a VIP guest at Music Cube to rock out to Katy B’s amazing vocals I didn’t hesitate with my answer. The Christmas before Christmas party was about to get started!
The stage was set, a large cube in the middle of the decorated shopping centre. People buzzing around everywhere waiting for Katy B to perform. We were greeted and given the softest most beautiful headphones I think I’ve ever worn, Sennheiser are fast becoming one of the most popular headphone brands in the music industry… and now I see why. We adjusted our headsets and plugged in.
Music playing into all of our headsets… and silence everywhere else. Surreal.
Onlookers above the Music Cube looked on with perplexed amusement. They were about to witness a music-less dance party. But we weren’t. We were getting ready for live streaming straight into our headphones.
The concept is unique and truly jaw dropping to witness.
We all awaited for the gorgeous Katy B and magically, the shades lifted and there she was in the middle of the cube. I’ve never seen her perform and as an American in London, sometimes I’m not totally up with my knowledge of performing artists… but I knew all of her songs and let me tell you the girl has a seriously kick-ass live voice.
Also I’m completely obsessed with her new song with Tinie Tempah. So there’s that.
We rocked out and danced on the stage to the beat. Westfield London shoppers definitely had stopped to watch us all seemingly dancing to ‘no sound.’ Au contraire.
And then we helped countdown to the Westfield London light switch on…
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1!
WHOOSH! Glitter fired out everywhere and all of the Christmas lights came on.
Such a fun feeling to be a part of something amazing with glitter in our hair. Katy B closed with ‘Lights On’ obv and as the shades closed, she kept saying ‘This is so so weird.’ I feel you Katy B, I feel you.
Looking out at us from inside the cube must have been equally surreal.
Needless to say, the entire event was a completely new experience and one I’d definitely be keen to repeat again soon.
And um, also I’m fairly confident that I have plans to visit the shopping centre again soon. After all, a girl needs clothes. And shoes. And bags. And champagne. So there’s that.
I’d totally recommend going to visit Westfield London over the holiday season, they’ll have Santa’s Grotto for the kids… and er, the adults who are super fun. And their Ice Rink opens November 19 and is open until January 3.
The lead up to the holidays is what the fun is all about, isn’t it?
