After a dreary first morning out escaping from Alcatraz, we were back on the mainland in sunny San Francisco, in time for the perfect thing… BRUNCH.
You all know I love a good brunch, and after a series of recommendations we found ourselves at the Buena Vista Café. It’s sat atop of a hill overlooking the water and the entrance to the cable cars and is the perfect spot for a good greasy fry up.
Annnd that’s exactly what we ordered. With a good cup of strong black coffee. Although, a speciality from Buena Vista Café is their Irish Coffee. It’s seriously got a kick to it. If you’re planning to be a productive member of society, I suggest not having too many of these to start the day.
I went for a “healthy” option with poached eggs, potatoes (YES PLZ) and wheat toast that had been buttered within an inch of its life.
It. Was. Beautiful.
Joe copied my epic breakfast idea with an addition of bacon. He’s the winner, obviously.
After eating, we decided to buy tickets for the cable cars (YEAH WE DID). But before going on the adventure through the city, we explored a little more nearby.
Like the Ghirardelli factory. Okay, if we have to.
Somehow, we didn’t walk out with bags of chocolate. But we did nab a sampler. I mean, when in the Ghirardelli factory, right?
I’ve also been wearing these dungarees at every chance I get.
From now on, I only own these beauties OK? Expect nothing more from me.
Moving onto the ~cable cars~ which start off at the bottom of the hill. You can buy a one way ticket for $7. All day tickets are something like $20, but we figured we’d only need one ride. (PS. I’d definitely suggest the one way ticket, unless you really love trolleys).
In case you didn’t know, the cable cars around San Francisco let you STAND ON THE EDGE OF THE CAR. I felt like this was my semi budget version of the Titanic moment between Jack and Rose.
Except for the fact that there was a family with a small baby behind me. But still.
We ventured up the hills. Stopping and starting. It’s not too tremendously fast, but you feel the wind blowing in your hair, and it’s a fun experience.
We got off at the last stop and then hitched a cab to take us up to the Painted Ladies, because we were tired (and lazy).
Immediately, we had all the Full House vibes. The houses, of course are stunning, but we agreed that we’d just hate to live there. Unfortunately the park across from the houses was shut down for some reconstruction work, so this was the only shot we had. Apparently from the park, there are beautiful views of the city… Next time!
Our visit to the Painted Ladies was short lived. We’d planned to relax in the hillside park, but no problem! We walked back towards the water, eventually ending up where we started.
I’ve got to admit it… I love the colours in San Francisco.
