Bruges is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. With a morning spent with breakfast on boats, even with the cold, we were determined to continue our day by sitting outside in the sun with beers.
Determination and preservation my friends.
We decided to be super tourists and sit outside in the square. I know that sometimes it’s considered ‘uncool’ to do tourist things like that, but I kind of love it. When you’re a tourist in a city, it’s great to soak it all in.
After drinks in the middle of the square, we went to higher ground. If you go into the Beer Museum, there’s the option to not to pay and go on the tour. Go upstairs for amazing views and a drink!
Definitely note that it’s super crowded and people will be swarming like vultures to snap up a seat. Embrace it and take a sip of your drink.
That night, we tucked into a little Belgian restaurant where Joe tried mussels for the first time (yes, seriously) and I went for a much needed salad. Whenever I find myself travelling, I’m always lacking severely in nutrition. I always go for the booze (because, fun) and the local cuisine. I was happy to get a teeny bit of nutrition back in my life. And then we got chips, but I mean, potatoes. So it was healthy. Right?
After dinner, we knew exactly where to go… ‘t Brugs Beertje.
We stumbled upon this hole in the wall pub the last time we were there and I fell in love. It’s off the beaten path, just up from the high street. Last time we wandered in and tried the Bruges Zot, which might be one of my favourites. We also had cheese sandwiches, because you know, when in Bruges.
On this visit, we were full of mussels, salad and chips so we went straight for the beers.
Another favourite of ours is the Rochefort Trappiste 10. It’s ridiculously strong and kind of like dessert. You can only drink about one of them before you’re drunk. Seriously.
So after one of those babies, we switched to something lighter to carry on our evening.
And before we knew it, it was late and we needed to get ourselves back to the hotel. Beauty sleep is important, you know?
Another night filled with great beers, good food and the best company.
I’ll take it.

Ah looks and sounds glorious – nothing better than some good food and drink in a new destination. I haven’t been to Bruges yet but definitely need too!
