Towards the end of last week (and even a little this week) I’d been finding myself feeling lower than usual. And I don’t think it’s particularly hard to find ourselves having tough days, especially when we’ve been approaching over sixty days of isolation, lockdown and quarantine.
So I wrote something on Instagram about how I was feeling low and unsurprisingly, so many of you jumped to offer words of encouragement, love and support. While I do blog for me, I also genuinely do create and work on content for all of you out there. And it meant so much to me that you came to pick me up when I was down.
In that spirit, I thought I’d put together a little positive pick me up post for whoever may need it this week too.
I’ve found inspiration from some of the wonderful accounts I follow on Instagram – and do check them out and give them a follow too. These quotes are less: live, laugh, love and more here’s our reality and let’s do our best to stay positive and keep your chin up. I hope they help you as much as they’ve helped me.
10 Positive quotes to get you through the week
1. Where you are, is not who you are
Especially important to remember right now. I’m feeling incredibly stuck at the moment due to our unchanging surroundings… I know I’m certainly not the only one. But it’s also important to remember that these circumstances are temporary and they certainly do not define us. Where we are right now, isn’t necessarily who we are.
2. We’re all flowers, some of us just have not bloomed yet
This is one I needed to hear this week. Like I mentioned, I have been feeling quite down about my work at the moment. Point blank, I’m having a bit of a wobble. I’m feeling unsure and unsteady in what I’m doing and now more than ever, it feels extra hard to create and feeling worthwhile. Comparison is the enemy and I’ve found myself comparing my early chapter to someone’s later chapter or sequel novel. PS. Allie is not only one of my best friends, but her account is also one of my all-time favourites.
3. Everyday might not be good, but there is good in everyday
Find and seek out the little things that make you happy. A hot cup of coffee. Looking at photos of dogs. Flowers in bloom. Laughing at a funny show. Talking with friends. Eating some chocolate. Whatever makes you happy, find it and hold onto it.
4. The way you speak to yourself matters
THIS! I find that a lot of times I speak down to myself, which is the worst. If you wouldn’t say it to your best friend, you probably should say it to yourself. Note to self.
5. Worrying means you suffer twice
OK, maybe it’s not the most mega positive quote but I think it holds a really positive meaning for me. I’m a worrying kind of person. You know the kind, that can’t stop, won’t stop worrying kind. It means that I end up feeling worse than I ever needed to in the first place. I worry about things that often end up being wonderful and great. I’m trying so hard not to worry because it’s true, you suffer twice. Also love this quote even more as it’s said by Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
6. It will be okay
Simple but true and a good thing to remember right now.
7. How to be happy: Decide every morning that you are in a good mood
Game changer alert! I know that there are many mornings after a poor night’s sleep where I think to myself, ugh, this is going to be a terrible day. But what if I changed that, and just thought… “I didn’t get much sleep, but I’m still in a good mood”. Who knows if it has the placebo effect that we want it to, but it’s worth a try, don’t you think?
8. Every second that makes you feel better is worth spending.
Whether that’s taking an hour each morning to do yoga or watch reruns of Frasier. Face masks. Productive or non-producitve things. If it makes you feel better, it’s worth spending some time on, don’t you think? Realising this is a little bit like doing what makes you happy too, but I like both.
9. Look down at your body and whisper… there is no home like you.
What. A. Quote. And something I think we could all use as a reminder during these times too. I switch between feeling active and exercising to feeling like a bit of a wine riddled slug at the moment. But I should remember to be kinder to myself, we only get one body as a home.
10. A few kind words can go a long way
And last but not least, like Ellen says, be kind to one another. It’s absolutely true, isn’t it? Whenever I’m feeling a bit down or upset, a few kind words of encouragement and love can go so far.
So keeping in line with positive quotes, thoughts and mindsets…. have a wonderful week! I’m sending you all lots of love and thinking of you through these tough times.
