Flat Eleven takes on the food culture in Brighton!
Well, I’m not actually going Vegan, but more so that I’m open to options – and I’m always up for trying a new restaurant/café/food truck – you name it.
So yesterday, J and I went to go visit my friend Sara, who’s currently doing the grad school thing down in Brighton.
Having never been there before, she gave us the grand tour.
But first, as always, we needed to get some grub. Although, I shouldn’t say grub, because Sara took us down the ‘Laine’ for an amazing array of home cooked Vegan/Vegetarian delights.
As non-vegetarians, but up for anything type of people, we were eager to try it out.
As previous New Yorkers, we all agreed that Brighton was a bit like Williamsburg in Brooklyn, a little bit of a hipster, hippie hangout, where in between organic coffeehouses you could pick up some secondhand threads for a steal. Fur coats and leather jackets lined the streets waiting to get scooped up by a new thrifty owner.
Amidst this we found our way to Idyea, an amazing Vegan/Vegetarian restaurant sandwiched happily on the Laine.
It was absolutely packed inside, obviously a popular spot among the locals. And it made our mouths water to try everything ASAP.
Idyea is a placed brimming with options. From juices and smoothies to coffees, there is plenty to try. Sara opted for an Apple, Carrot and Ginger juice while J and I stuck with water… we were pretty excited to fill up on all the delicious options instead.
So the way it works: A three step menu process.
1. Order your main. 2. Pick your sides. 3. Toppings!
I went for their Enchilada and had Mixed Salad, a White Bean Salad, Veggies, and Toppings of Hummus and Salsa. It was incredible. Also, a huge bonus is knowing that everything on your plate is actually good for you. So, the bonus? No guilty feelings indulging.
A little blurry, but J followed in my footsteps with the Enchilada, and cooked Carrots and Kale for sides. Plus, some Salsa and Hummus. I snuck some of the Kale, something I normally am not a fan of and it was so good. I could have eaten a plate of that alone.
Sara went for a Frittata of sorts (I think, it’s hidden so I can’t tell…). Add some Beetroots and Kale plus Roasted Mixed Seeds and Hummus. Delicious. Her plate definitely won the beauty award of the afternoon.
The view from our humble little table. That line for food honestly never disappeared and people were always joining along. Admittedly, for such a busy place, the atmosphere was permanantly relaxed.
If I lived in Brighton, I’d be making this a weekly spot. We were so jealous that it was practically on Sara’s doorstep.
At least I know where we need to visit when we head back that way!
xx Kelly
