I can’t recall the last time I’ve had Vietnamese food.
Surely I can guess that at some point when I was living in the states I did. However, it’s been a few years. And I’ve forgotten what it’s like. So when my friend Aftab suggested that I meet him and fellow blogger Angie at the House of Ho, I jumped at the chance.
On a chilly Monday, we all came together for an afternoon of lunching. It was the end of January and the three of us had been a bit fed up with feasting on every occasion. This was going to be the definition of a light lunch.
The House of Ho is in the heart of Soho, you’d almost miss it if you walked past. Inside, it has a very modern, simplistic decor. They’re all about the food.
After introductions and a good while of catching up, we ordered our meals. Starting with a round of rolls! I went with the pickled vegetable rolls, containing herbs, noodles and a side of peanut sauce.
Angie opted to start with seafood, the crispy skinned sea bass rolls (with cucumber and avocado). Ours looked slightly identical.
And Aftab ordered the wok tossed steak fillet, I think it looked the best!
I liked mine, it was extremely simple and exactly what I was looking for that day. And the sauce? Kind of like dipping it in peanut butter. Which is actually always a good thing in my opinion.
Next our mains arrived… I ordered the seafood ceviche. A salad made of prawns, sea bass, scallops, mangosteen, white truffle and coconut jus. Very fishy, but very delicious.
Angie had the salmon tartare, it looked incredible. Mine was good, but I’m still having food envy over the look of this beauty…
And Aftab ordered the smokey chili glazed chicken wings. These looked scrumptious.
I think it was the perfect idea grabbing a light lunch. As bloggers, we usually end up wanting to try it all, ordering and eating too much. This was refreshing and much needed for the three of us.
Although, because we were so light on lunch, we naturally had to order a few extras.
An Iced Vietnamese Coffee for myself and Aftab (mine without milk).
Aftab’s with milk…
These were really such a treat. But they are definitely on the sweeter side (even without milk). I hadn’t realized that they are made with condensed milk either! Aftab loved his so much he ordered a second, so I really don’t need to sell these too hard. They’re excellent. I’d stop in for another any day.
Angie ordered a blood orange tea upon a recommendation from our waiter which she said was absolutely lovely.
And it comes as a really nice tea set.
We sat a bit longer and chatted before heading back out into the cold. It’s always nice to get together with fellow bloggers. Everyone gets their phones and cameras out without apologies. It’s a treat.
I’d recommend popping into the House of Ho, we had a great lunch. I’m keen to head back soon to try out more of the menu, maybe with a cocktail or two!
