A gingerbread house to be more precise.
The other afternoon, J and I were shopping for little bits and pieces to pack up in my holiday box to send homeward bound on Santa’s sleigh to good old New York.
We stumbled upon the Christmas section in John Lewis. This is a dangerous place for people who either a) Love Christmas or b) Love giving presents. Guilty of both, I was giddy with excitement.
From gorgeous Christmas hampers filled with goodies, to smaller tins brimming with chocolate and biscuits, there is something for everyone on your list.
This section proved especially great for me as I couldn’t send too large of a box home for the holidays. So the little treats and stocking stuffers became international box fillers, cushioning the smaller gifts I was sending home.
In the midst of devouring the Christmas section, my eyes were glued to one thing in particular, a gingerbread house.
Packaged cleverly into the shape of a house, with the roof as a handle, you could easily carry this yummy project around the store.
Originally I had wanted to bake gingerbread, whip up some frosting, and buy some candies, crafting it from scratch.
Well, scratch that plan. We wanted this house.
So while I scurried off to pay, J bought the house for us to make. There are many reasons why I love him. Add his unwavering support of my Christmas excitement to the list.
Instead of impressing you all with any next great baker skills building a gingerbread house, we did this the easy way.
How could anyone resist though? Clever packaging and marketing at their finest.
Will ours look as spectacular as the box picture?
Probably not. Regardless, onto the construction.
Very serious work.
And before we knew it, the project was complete with J putting on the finishing touches.
Can you tell which side is mine?
What do you think?
We deviated a bit from the picture, putting our own spin into the design.
It was painstaking to not eat ALL of it.
Sadly, there was a snowman who did not make it the scene. I think we managed without him though.

One snowman casualty is pretty good for working with all that deliciousness!! It looks terrific.

Thanks Amy! I think we surprised ourselves massively with our restraint. I think it helps that I made Christmas cookies the next day though… X

Thanks Shawna! It was really fun putting it together, and beyond easy. I think next time I’ll have to actually create it from scratch, but this was a great alternative. Also, a belated Merry Christmas to you! X
