Welcome to the real life Little Women house! Louisa May Alcott’s home, Orchard House 🏡🍎📖

This is where the famous ‘Little Women’ author, Louisa May Alcott and her family lived. Did you know that she based the characters in her beloved novel on her family and the lives of herself and her sisters? 👀

Their home, Orchard House, is super unique as it is preserved in the style that the family really lived in AND features so many of their original items and possessions from their home & it’s only about 30 minutes outside of Boston.

✍️ We saw Louisa May Alcott’s writing desk, where she penned her novels
🎨 Artwork and drawings by May (Amy!) throughout the home
🎭 Where the girls performed their skits and plays
🏡 The rooms they all spent their lives in
🧳 Louisa May Alcott’s luggage trunk with her initials - so neat!
🖼️ Famous portraits of the family

And of course, so much more! I’ve had the Alcott house on my literary bucket list for some time and oh my gosh it was so lovely and what a beautiful time of year to visit!

Tickets are $15 per adult and includes a 45 minute tour inside of the house. The entire staff there are also so incredibly lovely and knowledgable, our tour guide Ayla was fantastic. And we got so lucky with a lovely group of women along with us our tour with us who were such good fun to chat and wander the house with.

Would you dress up in regency era attire and visit Bath for the Jane Austen festival? 📖🫖☕️🇬🇧📚

On the first day of the festival everyone dresses up in their regency best for the Grand Promenade through the city and it’s magic to see in person!

All week there are activities on throughout Bath to enjoy. Some are free for visitors to explore (check out the Jane Austen Centre website for the schedule).

Complete with historical costumes, attending readings + performances! 📖🎭

🏨 The Shelbourne - We stayed here during our visit. Mentioned in Ulysses and it’s one of the best hotels in the city! Don’t miss the member’s library bar 1824 as well as the paintings of the square, St Stephen’s Green in the No. 27 Bar and Lounge.
🏥 Sweny’s Pharmacy - No longer a working pharmacy like in Ulysses, it’s now a literary trove run by volunteers. There are regular readings + you might even be treated to a song!

Oscar Wilde Highlights - Did you know that this year marks 126 years since his death? ⬇️
🏡 Oscar Wilde’s Home - At One Merrion Square, you can tour the house that Wilde grew up in and learn about his family’s fascinating history. He was such an interesting person and so were his parents!
