Usually when I take off on my travel adventures I feel this serene sense of calm with a tingling mixture of excitement. It’s a pit in your stomach sensation that confirms that yes, you are in fact, living.
One of my greatest fears is in fact, to die without seeing everything the world has to offer. Realistically, I know I won’t see each and every corner of the world. But I’m certainly working on it.
So when the lovely Emma asked me to join in on adding my favorite travel quotes to photos, well, there’s no way I could resist. It’s been a trip down memory lane for me, revisiting old photographs, reliving past adventures. You’ll certainly recognize some of quotes. After all, as adventurers we tend to think along the same lines.
I’ll forever be enamored with the work of F. Scott Fitzgerald, so naturally this quote would make the list. The first time I ever traveled across the Atlantic was when I was 21 years old. I visited London and Paris and haven’t looked back since.
It’s become one of my favorite mantras over the years. If you don’t love your life as it is, it’s time to make changes. Be happy.
Ah London. It’s my home away from home. Or truly, at this point, it is my home. And Portobello Road is one of my favorite places in London. I can’t stop returning and finding little odds and ends that I continue to add to my eclectic life. I love this quote from Samuel Johnson, who was an English writer and poet. Maybe he was a little biased… but I too certainly also have a soft spot in my heart for this beautiful city.
Mae West will always be right. We took the plunge and booked tickets to Greece and visited back in June. My goal for the next year is to book impromptu trips as much as we possibly can.
What would travel (and life) be without friendship? Elbert Hubbard’s quote rings exceptionally true for me. Moving abroad again and striving to create new friendships in adult life is more difficult than you’d think. I feel incredibly lucky to have met such wonderful friends through my travels and living in both Edinburgh and now London.
Sometimes, we can’t afford to travel. Whether it’s a time commitment or financial reasons, I feel that this last quote by Marcel Proust (shoutout to everyone here that has a Gilmore Girls flashback at hearing the name Proust) is extremely important. Explore your current surroundings. Living in London, I know that I have an incredible opportunity to see and do so much. Focus on where you are.
After all, there’s always an unturned opportunity for adventure and exploration.
