Well, I can’t believe it because we’re finally at New Year’s Day on Flat Eleven!
We’ve caught up over the holidays and here’s my last in the series of time my parents spent over in London. Joe’s parents were up for New Year’s too.
So we had one last night the six of us together.
And actually, we found this place courtesy of my dad! His friend from work used to live in Chelsea and told us we absolutely had to check this little Italian spot out. The place? La Famiglia.
We booked in for the evening a few days before New Year’s Day. That night was a bit rainy so we took a cab over.
The restaurant is completely family dominated, photos along the walls, and you get these instant at home vibes.
Well, it is called La Famiglia!
And the menu by the way, talk about extensive! It’s jam packed full of so many options that you don’t really know where to start.
But while you think it over, they bring out bread and breadsticks for your table…so many that it doesn’t seem feasible to eat them all but somehow you do.
Even with our big meal from the night before, we were beyond ready to try out these amazing pasta dishes. We all eagerly ordered.
It certainly didn’t take long for our dishes to arrive.
I ordered the Tagliolini Ortolana, green egg noodles with a garlic, chilli and spinach sauce.
It was absolutely incredible. But be warned, it’s very spicy. In between bites I gulped down my glass of water. It was worth it though. I need to go back and have this again.
And naturally, to kickstart our healthly living this year, my mom and I split a green salad.
She and Sue (J’s mom) each ordered the simple Spaghettini al Pomodoro Fresco.
Our dishes were so light and fresh. They really were the perfect way to start the New Year.
As for the gents? J went for his absolute favorite, the Carbonara.
And both of our dads picked out the Pappardelle al Cinghiale… which is pasta with a wild boar sauce. Yes, seriously.
The men raved, brilliant choices!
We polished off our meals with beautiful presicion. And um well once the plates had cleared, we kind of had to get dessert. After all, it was our last night all together.
Our server debuted the dessert cart, a spectacular display of delicacies for all to see. Clever. I’d been eyeing it up since we’d sat at our table. I wish I’d written down what we had, so these are my vague guesses as they are not on the menu…
‘Lemon Heaven’ because this was the perfect amount of lemon and sugar and I wanted to take the entire pie (cake?) home.
And a mixed berry tart, I think.
Lemon and mixed berries basically means the healthiest way to start 2015.
Right? I agree.
I couldn’t have picked a better restaurant to start 2015. And I suppose I didn’t even pick it! Well done Dad!
Here’s the outside of La Famiglia looking festive! Not my best effort at photos, but sometimes they simply have to do.
We left La Famiglia happily with our stomachs full, and hearts happy. It’s only ever so often that we get to spend such a great quality amount of time together! Every time keeps getting better and better, J and I are both very lucky people to have such great families.
And speaking of great, finally a Happy 2015 to all of my Flat Eleven readers! You’re all such a wonderfully great supportive bunch and blogging wouldn’t be the same without each and every one of you. So thank you and a very Happy New Year!
Lots of love,
