Have you ever stayed in the Austrian Alps at a 5 star luxury hotel resort? I hadn’t either until my magical stay at Das Edelweiss resort!
Das Edelweiss is a 5 ⭐️ family run resort tucked in the mountainside of the magical Großarl region, known as the valley of alpine cottages – how cute!!! Das Edelweiss blends hints of traditional Austrian decor and charm with a modern twist.
With so many restaurants and bars, pools, saunas, spas, lounges, a nursery for kids and even massive indoor waterslides – we had the best time! It’s a seriously luxury hotel but they make you feel right at home as a part of the family.
It’s one of the friendliest places I’ve EVER stayed and in the most beautiful location.
Where to stay in Austria
We visited Das Edelweiss just on the cusp of the end of summer as the season switched to autumn. It was the perfect getaway to relax, unwind and take in some of the most stunning scenery. It’s certainly one of the most luxury hotel stays you will find in the Salzburg region of Austria.
So come spend a week with me in the absolutely stunning Austrian alps at Das Edelweiss 😍!
The Rooms
We stayed in one of their brand new Top Deluxe Suites, which I think would be perfect for a group. We even had a private terrace with a hot tub! But Das Edelweiss do have so much choice for room availability – you can elevate your experience as much or as little as you like!
There’s so much to do on site, you might choose a more affordable room and spend more time exploring all of the pools and spa. Rooms start from £150 a night per person and do include breakfast + dinner, which I think is absolutely fantastic.
Don’t forget, order a luxurious room service breakfast overlooking the mountains! Breakfast in bed OR on your balcony is a great option for lazy mornings with the best views.
The Food
Speaking of cuisine, we absolutely loved trying all of the food. There are several different restaurants all on site, so there is something for everyone. From traditional courses at Edelweiss Mountain Cuisine which we had so much fun trying – as well as their steak restaurant Sirloin. At Sirloin, we ordered some of the best steak I’ve ever had, paired beautifully with red wine, along with a few delicious starters.
The hotel also has some of the best Asian cuisine! You absolutely need to have a sushi day/night (or just constantly order it). I am still thinking of the the salmon poké bowl – I ordered it THREE days in a row – it was that good!
We were also lucky enough to visit during Das Edelweiss Friends Week which happens once a year. So we were treated to some extra special menus and chef tastings over the course of our stay. I would absolutely recommend booking during this time period for a little added fun! Though truly, anytime you visit will undoubtedly be a magical experience.
The Pools, Waterslides (yes really!) and Spa
There’s no way you can visit Das Edelweiss without a dip in their pools! And there are so many to choose from. There are a few adults only sections both indoors and out, a lap pool for swimming lengths, and even more inside! With a huge swimming pool with gorgeous lounge areas… seriously a pool for everyone to enjoy alongside access to their saunas and wellness spas.
Up on the swimming pool levels there’s also a Spa Bistro where you can order cocktails or snacks to enjoy poolside. It would have been incredibly rude not to get a cheeky afternoon cocktail… so, cheers!
There are EVEN waterslides!!! It was so much fun going on these!! Seriously, Das Edelweiss is one of the most surprisingly, interesting resort hotels you could ever stay at! There’s honestly so much to do, it’s hard to manage it all – but we certainly tried!
And of course, it’s a wonderful idea to book in for a massage or treatment to truly enhance your relaxation at Das Edelweiss. We decided to book in during our “pool day” which meant after our time having a blast on the waterslides, we got to chill out with full-body massages in the treatment rooms.
It was so relaxing, I nearly fell asleep! The sign of an excellent massage.
Things to do locally
🥾 Hike to see the epic waterfall at the Liechtensteinklamm
Only a 10 minute drive away from Das Edelweiss, you will arrive at Austria’s Liechtensteinklamm. It is so beautiful. You’ll be treated to stunning blue water flowing through this gorge with walls up to 300m high! The walk is around 4 km long and it’s well worth walking all the way to the end. The path is also fairly easy and straightforward. Wear good walking shoes just in case it’s a little slippery!
🚲 Explore Großarl on e-bikes
This was SUCH a fun time! E-bikes and regular bikes are available for guests of Das Edelweiss to rent out for the day across from the hotel. These are complimentary for guests and I can’t recommend them enough. I’d never ridden an e-bike before but oh my gosh it was incredibly fun! We did not anticipate to spend a full hour out on the bikes but we honestly could have stayed even longer (but they closed at 5pm, so we were hustling back to return the bikes before closing time!)
🏰 Visit Austria’s medieval Burg Hohenwerfen castle
Straight out of a fairytale, the Burg Hohenwerfen castle (I know, I know, it’s like saying castle twice to those who know, but for those who don’t, Burg = castle!) is on the way to Das Edelweiss from Salzburg airport – you literally cannot miss it. And it is SO DREAMY! Even if you don’t go into the castle itself, I’d highly recommend going for a short hike around the woods below for some excellent views.
Now I think I just need a romantic winter getaway visit to go back and take Joe! For those of you who ski, this is the PERFECT destination with the slopes a minute walk away. They’re even building their very own ski lift for this upcoming 2023/2024 winter as well. So stay tuned for that!
I’m absolutely desperate to see it in the wintertime for some après-ski adventures! ❄️
You can book your stay at Das Edelweiss here.
Stay tuned to continue along for more adventures in Austria! There’s so much to do in this beautiful country and we got to explore so many incredible places nearby to Das Edelweiss. Would you visit this stunning luxury hotel destination in the Austrian Alps?
