I skipped my Sunday lifestyle blog post yesterday. I tired to write it on Saturday, but I was suffering from a mild hangover and honestly, laying in bed and watching episodes of Castle and murder mystery shows seemed like a much better idea. It does sound good, doesn’t it?
Now, it’s Monday morning. My coffee is strong, my head is clear and the sun is shining in the most fantastic way. It puts a smile right on your face and automatically gives you all the endorphins. And I’m welcoming it all.
So I thought that it felt like a good time to talk about things that have made me happy this week.
9 things that made me happy this week:
My new blog posts
My Newcastle post went live and honestly, I’ve been loving the responses from everyone on it. I feel like my travel posts are getting better. More cohesive and thoughtful all around. I’m excited to write them and even more excited to explore cities with different aims and objectives. Another one I’m particularly proud of is my review of Pink Mamma – the most Instagrammable restaurant in Paris.
I found a beautiful garden centre in Southampton
It’s called The Garden Society and it’s downright dreamy. We stopped in to pick up a birthday present for Joe’s sister and I got enamored with everything. It’s like a fancier Home Sense – with the addition of plants and a tea room that serves Mad Hatter themed afternoon tea. It’s the cutest and when we get our own place, I’m going to go absolutely mad hatter in there with my credit card.
I dyed my hair purple!
OK, so it was temporary. But Rusk Hair Care sent me across some gifted goodies and I can’t help but actually rave about them. I tried the purple hair mouse and it turns your hair a marvelous shade. Obviously, I’d recommend these most for fellow blondes to try out.
And by the next day, my hair was purple free! I did shampoo it a few times to get it all out. They say it should last up to three days (it’ll fade each wash), but I had an outfit to wear that the purple didn’t quite go with the next day, so I sped up the process to go a little sooner. Still, it’s good to find a product that actually says what it’s going to do – actually was out and give you temporary colour. I find on most occasions, the colour doesn’t fade and you’re stuck with it. These didn’t do that, so I’ll happily recommend and use them again.
Bought a TON of clothes at Primark
Say what you will about fast fashion, but I’m a gal on a budget and I was so excited to find some absolute gems in Primark last week. Stay tuned to my Insta to see what I got.
Started the Sweat app, created by Kayla Itsines
I finally jumped onto the BBG bandwagon… and now I understand the hype. I had seven free days of trialling the app before you pay $19.99 per month (not sure exactly of the cost in pounds on the app store). It’s kicking my ass. I’m so sore, but I’m feeling more confident and better about my body even just a week into the process. It’s not about losing weight, it’s about getting my old clothes to fit a little better again and to tone back up. I feel actively excited to use the app every day to monitor my progress and get new workouts.
Went on a double date with Jaye and Connor to my favorite Southampton spot, the Pig in the Wall.
I absolutely love spending time with Jaye so I couldn’t be happier that our new home makes it easier to see this babe on a regular basis. And the four of us get on so well that it means double dates are super easy to arrange. That meant, loads of wine, pizzas and poor Connor being designated driver and therefore subject to our hysterics. Thanks again Con!
Travelled up to London for the weekend
Oops, that Friday night with Jaye and Connor left me with a SERIOUS hangover. But I was committed to getting up to London with Joe. We stayed overnight at The May Fair Hotel. And by stayed, I mean Joe went to work while I cancelled all plans and sat in bed with food and mystery shows for five hours. I was going to write a blog post about The May Fair Hotel. But I actually found it a little bit dated. It’s one of those places that continues to feed off it’s reputation, without actually being anything too spectacular. So while the hotel itself is a bit meh, I will give credit to the staff, who were brilliant.
Brunch at Caffe In
You know, I never really get to explore the area of Mayfair. So because we were staying so close, we had a good and proper wander around. Ending up at brunch at Caffe In. I can’t recommend it enough. The service was great and the food, even better. We went for simple dishes, avocado on toast with poached eggs and poached eggs with toast for Joe. Nothing too fancy, but good people and good surroundings. You can find it in Shepherd’s Market.
Sleeping in
Last but not least, I’m happy about waking up today after the most glorious sleep. I think it can make a world of difference to your mood and I know that the upcoming week is going to be pretty hectic, so I’m happy to say that I’m going to try and get some good night’s of sleep for the next few days.
What made you happy last week?
