Rockin’ around the Christmas tree, it’s a New Look holiday.
I hope you were singing this along with me, because I actually can’t stop singing it now. Find me in a week, I’ll still be belting this one out.
Tis the season to be jolly and celebrate. I can’t think of a better way to start celebrating the countdown to Christmas than getting in the festive spirit with New Look’s Advent Calendar.
Forget about your typical purchased advent goody surprises – this countdown to Christmas includes something better. Chunky knits, skirts to fall in love with, pyjamas to wake up in and of course, your ultimate New Look Christmas playlist.
When we said hello to October, we also said hello to the Christmas trees in shop windows, baubles and glitter galore. Wahoo! And we’re finally in the countdown to Christmas, so it’s about time I share my favourites for the holidays and music plays a massive part in the spirit of Christmas. Even though I’m a super modern kinda gal and social media reigns supreme in my life, believe it or not, I’m a sucker for old movies, old tunes and the all encompassing nostalgia that surrounds the holidays. I also love mixing it in with the new. I’m all about the feel good kinda vibes whether it’s from the 40s, the 80s or rocking our way into present day collections.
So in the spirit of the 12 days of Christmas, I’ve got the twelve rockin’ tunes – and your perfect Christmas day outfits of course! It’s your New Look advent calendar surprise, clothes and tunes and the spirit of the season.
Start the morning off way too early. I always wake up giddy, like well, a kid on Christmas. Nearly every year growing up on Christmas eve, my mom would gift us with a new set of pyjamas, so we’d wear them to bed and look awesome for photos the next day. As I got older I may have wised up and dabbed on dash of foundation before it was showtime.
These beauties called out to me. I’m a sucker for black – yes even on Christmas! – so I needed these polka dot babes in my life (Jumper and bottoms). Pour me a glass of champagne and let’s kickstart the party. OK fine, add a dash of orange juice for opening presents.
1. Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee
2. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Judy Garland
3. Last Christmas – WHAM (OMG. I have a serious passion for this song. I belt it out actually throughout the entire year to Joe’s dismay)
4. All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey (such a fabulous diva)
5. White Christmas – Bing Crosby
6. Baby it’s Cold Outside – Dean Martin
7. Fairytale in New York – The Pogues
8. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
9. Holly Jolly Christmas – Michael Bublé (anything Bublé at Christmastime is an absolute winner though)
10. Blue Christmas – Elvis
11. Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! – Frank Sinatra
12. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday – Wizzard (not sorry, I really do wish it could be Christmas everyday)
Now that you’ve got your playlist to jam to daily. I feel like it’s appropriate getting ready music. Turn the beats up as you get ready for work, on your commute and voilà – instant happiness provided by Christmas. And instant happiness to start Christmas day.
From the PJs look through to the daytime, you need a swift transition to take you from the Buck’s Fizz to the white wine, champagne and canapés. For the daytime you need something party with personality, because we know that by the end of the night we end covered in glitter from Christmas cards, party hats and everything in between.
My go to suggestion for the holiday parties through to Christmas day with the family? An oxblood red velvet skirt, tight sweater with a ruffled neck and a cosy jumper for when you’re inevitably hit with the cool winter chill.
