You can’t start your weekend without champagne… I mean breakfast.
And well, brunch is just a fancy word for breakfast, which just happens to follow.
It’s a combination of all my favorite things. Coffee, anything with eggs and alcohol. Alright, so it may sound like the perfect recipe to a tailgate party back in my sorority days, but I promise as an adult it’s much more sophisticated.
Therefore, it took little convincing for me to attend a bottomless brunch with my friends.
The Villandry St James starts you immediately with a full glass of champagne, and a basket brimming with baked goods. Orange juices all around. And naturally, I made sure to order a coffee, after all, I don’t mess around.
They stagger your brunch out quite a bit, which was perfectly fine by us, time to catch up over a glass of bubbles. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. I’d put this into a category as one of my top places to go in London for a classic brunch.
Eventually though, the food does interrupt the champagne-ing. The Villandry does fairly standard menu breakfasts. English Breakfast, Vegetarian Breakfast, Eggs Benedict… something for everyone.
May I present? The vegetarian breakfast. Plus, it has avocado, which basically sells itself.
A full English brekkie.
And my choice? The Eggs Royale, of course!
With a side of spinach, because I like to create my own menus…
The food is incredible. It’s well portioned and you don’t feel sickly after eating. You feel satisfied, content.
And then they bring dessert. A plate of little treats for your sweet tooth.
It almost tips you into the ‘full’ category. A solid favorite? The raspberry macaron. Give me more please.
The thing I love about The Villandry is how they are happy to let you relax, enjoy the champagne and eat at a leisurely pace. I never once felt like they were rushing to get us out. The only thing they rushed to do is to top up our champagne glasses.
Fine by me.
The Villandry hosts weekend brunches that cost £40 per person. It may sound like quite a lot, but it’s phenomenal champagne, excellent food, and hopefully (like it was for me), amazing friends.
