Fish and chips are not my forte.
The first time I came to England, I tried them and well, meh. I know. I’m sorry.
But it’s about time for my redemption because Sutton and Sons completely wins at fish. And chips for that matter.
It’s been awhile since I’d been over to Shoreditch, so I’m happy to say, it was well worth the journey. Over in the Boxpark pop ups, you can find the recently opened Sutton and Sons on the second floor. It’s tucked away. You need to be in the know to find it.
Welcome to ‘in the know.’
My friend Aftab was invited along to review, so I had the lucky tag along invite. And like I said, it’s kind of too good not to share.
They have a simple design, which is perfect. It’s not about a flash, it’s about fish.
It’s a must stop on your list for semi outdoor dining this spring and summer.
The staff are incredibly friendly and while we were waiting, we got to chatting about their business. Their main location is in Stoke Newington, where right across the street, they have their own fishmonger business. Essentially, they are serving the freshest caught fish.
They bring the fish from the fishmonger over to their Boxpark location too.
I was keen to try it out. Would this be the fish and chips that would change my mind?
Oh absolutely.
Aftab chose the cod, which is a bit of a thicker fish. I had the haddock, a thinner fish. Admittedly, I had no idea there was such a difference, so I loved how the owner took the time to explain and go through our options before we ordered.
Summed up? The fish was fantastic. Cooked perfectly. I couldn’t have wanted anything else. I happily ate way too much.
While we opted for the classic fish and chips, don’t feel like that’s all you have to order. Sutton and Sons have an extensive menu featuring lobster, scampi, prawns and more. You name it, you can probably get it. I have my eye on that lobster roll for next time…
So I’ll definitely be heading back there soon. It’s only just opened, so get yourself on over.

I feel like it’s probably an upgrade from a usual fish and chip shop… probably why they’ve absolutely won me over! xox
